This is true, but he did receive NFL OPOY votes when he was with the Chargers, so we can't act like that the talent wasn't there. (That was 2004, Peyton was the near unanimous MVP with all but 1 vote that some guy gave to Vick and Manning put up one of the best seasons of his career, 4557 yds, 49 TDs, and a career high 121.1 Passer Rating.)
He got OPOY votes while in a Martyball offense. Enough said. [Reply]

Stop. Brees was younger and had a higher ceiling. Despite that he has one SB appearance and win. Let's not pretend that he coached Brees in the NFC of the 80's pre free agency. Three of the top 5 QBs in the league played in the AFC and the only one that was in the NFC only went to and won one SB. [Reply]

Also, he was a Pro Bowler and got OPOY votes in SD under Marty Schottenheimer of all people . . . . .

You both claim he got OPOY votes in SD. This is not true. He got one OPOY vote, putting him behind Peyton Manning, Duante Culpepper, Terrell Owens and Curtis Martin. His one vote tied him with LaDanian Tomlinson and Michael Vick.
Honestly, I'm shocked he got that vote. 27 TDs vs 7 INTs? The guy everyone here is trying to downplay (McNabb) had 31 TDs and 8 INTs the same season. [Reply]

Him losing their 2nd SB make that even more clear.
Yup. You saw what happened when Carroll put the game in the hands of Wilson. [Reply]
In 2004 Brees was 15th in passing yards, and 3 of the guys ahead of him played in fewer games. I think we can stop pretending his OPOY vote was anything other than one diehard SD fan. [Reply]

How many votes for any award has Wilson gotten? [Reply]

Dear God. Semantics. You got the point. And he got the Vote
And yes, Culpepper had an amazing year (Led the league in Passing Yards on the backs of Moss and Carter) everyone else you mentioned that received votes also had great years, and ended up Hall of Famers, hence kind of proving our point for us. That he garnered OPOY attention in a field full of HoF talent (except for Culpepper who had obvious votes because of Passing yards leader and Vick, but theres a variety of reasons that he didn't make the HoF)

Yup. You’re right. Sorry. I concede.
Drew Brees was a talentless hack who blossomed into an MVP caliber player and all time great HOF QB thanks to the tutelage of the QB whisperer.
I’m sure he will do the exact same for mid 30’s overweight and athletically declining Russ Wilson. You guys must be looking forward to the 40 TD, 5000 yard season that’s coming!
I look forward to DangeRuss HOF speech 10 years from now. [Reply]
