It's funny how so many Broncos fans don't realize they had to pay Payton that and it took so long because of how awful that job is.

The talent level isn't great, no surplus of cap room, no picks, contract tied to an aging declining QB.

It's gonna take years to get that team to a decent level.

The smartest thing they could do is trade guys with any value and make cuts while picking their core players.

That job requires a tear down before it can be brought back. I doubt Payton is the coach for that type of job, most older coaches don't have the stomach for it.
