Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

Sounds like one of the legs may have taken (partially planned-for) damage on the landing, so they're a bit nervous that it'll tip over on the way back. Hope it makes it!

She's a leaner.

Hopefully the stage itself is OK, though.

I just don't think its a good idea man..... DOOM video games man...

But, objectively we have to get to MAR's to develop techs on how humans survive on long travels and develop ways of producing food/oxy ect...

Close-up of the base. Looks like the engines all are fine, so even though it landed hard on that one leg, it still held up.

Looks like it's a good thing they have those yellow railings on the side. It slid a TON to the side before they could get it secured to the deck.

Ha! I knew that I saw it leaning on the previous landing.

Apparently the legs have a "crush core" that's designed to give a little (or a lot in this case) in the event that it comes down pretty hard, and this one used it up entirely.

I haven't heard that mentioned about the previous landing, but I think it stands to reason that each time the first leg down will likely have to give a bit unless it lands absolutely perfectly on all four simultaneously.

Landing photos are up on Flickr. It's impressive that it was still able to land after coming in this off-level.

Reusable rockets? Still a "wow" to me anyway.
