If the Chiefs get the 2nd seed...they can likely rest their starters week 18. That game would be against the Donks...fighting for their post-season lives. If Denver were to win, they would play a rested KC the very next week @ Arrowhead. Two weeks to game plan in earnest while playing vanilla in the first meeting...Donks cant hold anything back.
Conversely, there is a chance the Ravens might be the lowest seed remaining after the first week of the play-offs. They would travel to the Bills. KC might see the Texans in week 2...
Bills lose to Ravens, KC gets HFA for the AFCCG...
Chiefs are in a good position to get a least some rest either way...obviously a first round bye is preferable but the 2nd seed might not be terrible either. [Reply]

Chiefs wouldn't avoid the Ravens in the scenario I posted...Baltimore would play the Bills in Orchard Park. That is contingent on the Steelers winning the AFCN.
At any rate...dont care enough about this topic to interact with internet chest-beaters....not you...just not going to play along with the vicarious pile-on.
Chiefs get the #1,2,3,4 seed...it's nothing I control.
Somehow this got turned into that I'd prefer KC not get the #1 seed...was just illustrating a potential plan B scenario. [Reply]

Aside from needing the bye week to get some rest there is another huge reason.
Playing 1 more game than necessary increases the likelihood of injury by a lot.
We have lost several players due to injury in playoff games including Mahomes for short stretches (that effected his play in other games after) and several OL over the years along with some important defensive players.
Playing 1 more game unnecessarily means 1 more game you might just have an off day.
Its a ridiculous question, in no scenario is the 2 seed a better option. [Reply]

I never implied it was a "better" option...only it could also work out to the Chiefs advantage.
People are ****ing weird when it comes to football....got Bills fans hitting some stranger in face with a dildo breaking his glasses...really brings out the low IQ territorials.
OMG OMG OMG...dont you dare mention KC not getting the #1 seed...my whole self-worth is tethered to it. [Reply]

The Broncos will get the 7th seed and we will play them in the WC. The problem there is they have the best pass rush in the league and have throttled our offense 3 games in a row.
Do not underestimate how much of a bitch it will be playing those guys. Vance Joseph knows our offense since he’s seen it so many times.
Yes I still think we would win but the grind this team has taken is nuts. Any of us would rather take the bye then play a divisional team that knows us well and wants revenge for a game they should have won. [Reply]

You just think I get worked up...the NFL is going to do what the NFL does.
There is a thread on every teams forum about the "fixed" topic...so dont act like that opinion is some abstract outlier.
If it's "fixed"...it's for the team I watch...so I'll take it...dont really have a choice...it's just entertainment. Mahomes is the #1 sports rating darling in the world...of course the NFL is going to milk it...greed is their thing. [Reply]
If they don't get the bye, the 2 wouldn't be the worst idea. Just have to hope someone goes in and beats Buffalo or whoever gets the 1 in the divisional round. [Reply]

Was going to post this. It's always hilarious seeing the "ITS RIGGED" people try to discuss strategies. If it's rigged, why does it matter? The league will rig which seed we end up with and if we win the games in the playoffs right? [Reply]
We want the 1 seed. In all reality, we probably NEED the 1 seed.
Last year was definitely the team best equipped to pull off a road run. This one would be close IF the defense gets their feet back underneath them on a level comparable to 2023.
But that team was built to win anywhere. Not pretty, but they could pack that defense up and a solid playoff ground game wherever they went. [Reply]
Alternative proposal - After the Carolina game/win just rest starters rest of the year and take the 7 seed. No injuries, just get healthy, hold practices, and draw up crazy game plans for our likely playoff match-ups. [Reply]

It was also a pretty improbable run. I'd prefer not to have to do that again. [Reply]

This 100%. One fewer opponent, one more week of rest will always trump three games against possible opponents. [Reply]
