Colonoscopies fall into my "That was how it happened 20 years ago" category. It's a waste of $5500 and completely unnecessary. It's been shown over and over that a check of blood in the stool and a sigmoidoscopy will find any abnormalities.
It has also been shown that the prep drinks are really hard on the kidneys.
"Doc! I have a sore throat!"
"I have a cure for that!"
"Doc! I took the medicine and my sore throat is gone, but I have anal bleeding!"
So the prep isn't the most fun thing in the world but they discovered a bunch of stuff in my ascending colon last year and it gave me a chance to get it all removed surgically. Went in and cut a couple feet of intestines, sewed the ends together and three days later everything is working good as new again.
They told me without the procedure there was an extremely high likelihood that I would have had some real issues with the cancer starting right around this time.
So don't die a stupid and preventable death. Go get a camera jammed up your butt as soon as possible! [Reply]
Crossed 5-0 recently, the wife who's a endoscopy nurse didn't let me wait long to get scheduled. Between her and your past thread and the great Lonewolf Ed it makes it hard to put off. [Reply]
