Nzoner's Game Room>Saint Joe restaurants
AustinChief 07:50 PM 06-12-2009
OK, question for the St Joe planeteers... Name some "famous" St Joe restaurants(past or present) and what you would consider their "signature" item...

Maybe it is just the item you associate with them .. for instance...

The Bucket Shop= beefburger
Galvin's=fried chicken
36th Street= Tenderloin sandwich
D&G= the Simon
Kleinbrodts= scrappy beef
Cordonnier's = catfish sandwich
Jerre Anne's = any and every side dish

NO CHAINS ALLOWED...

extra credit if you have a recipe for said item!

Hardy's in Wathena. Man, they had the best biscuits and gravy and tenderloins. I'm sure it's gone now (this was in the 70s) and was a destination for tired farmers and their families at the end of a long day, or for breakfast. Wathena also had Dairy King... yep, the KING!

Nice call,I remember going there as a kid and they had dine in or car hop service.

Which also reminds me of another great spot in the Southside called Thirsty Drive-In famous for their broasted chicken and broasted potatoes.I still make the broasted potatoes from time to time and they kick ass.

Geneo's Pizza is also pretty kickass. Anyone remember Steve's Pizza? A lot like Pizza Royal if I remember correctly, all 3 of those are/were damn good.

The places I have to go to when I'm back in town are Barbosas (Beefy Cheese Dip and Lard-Fried chips...mmmmmm) and Boudreaux's. My parents and I also really liked Johnny Fry's while it was around. Even though I think the guy that owns Palma's was the cook at Fry's, we never have really gotten into Palmas.

I remember Steve's Pizza there at the end of strip mall near 22nd and Garfield. They had good Pizza Rolls, their version of a Calzone. Our family used to frequent that place when I was a kid.
