I don't think you're wrong... I just don't think Brees was a clump of clay by the time he lined up with Payton. He had a strong body of work and yes, he was better with Payton. It was a great combo.

Keep borrowing from future resources to try to win with an aging quarterback and destroy the teams current and future cap situation in the process? Giving out highly questionable contracts to low to midrange free agents. Cutting them a year or 2 into a new deal leaving millions and in some cases tens of millions in dead money?
