Nzoner's Game Room>50 Beers to Try Before You Die
NewChief 06:18 AM 04-24-2010
Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

Will be in KC in a few weeks. Basic Google and untapped research tells me that the best breweries in KC are Alma Mader and BKS Artisanal Ales. But disappointingly it seems that both of these taprooms close at 8pm. So my question is...where in KC can I get beers from these breweries on tap that is open until at least 10pm? Also what's the best non brewery affiliated craft beer bar/taproom in KC?

In terms of non-brewery options, Taps on Main and Oak & Steel are within walking distance of each other... The Belfry is also close by.

That current tap list for Oak & Steel looks decent cheers. Also lol at Stella being the first beer on the list at Taps on Main. I guess it enjoys a different perception in the US.

Oak and Steel is great. Can vouch. Staff are all good and knowledgeable folks too. Owner has great taste in music too so the tunes are always good but unobtrusive.

You may also get super lucky when you come to town as they just had their 5th Anniversary week and there are a bunch of good kegs left that he's going to sporadically put (I think, don't kill me, Kyle) on to finish off. He's got some crazy shit.

BKS and Alma are both really good spots as well. Can't sleep on those if you have a chance. They both do lighter beers so well. Any pilsner or lager from those two places will knock your socks off. Perfectly done.

Awesome. I'm bringing a load of really good UK craft beers that have never seen the US with me to give away so maybe this dude may treat me.

I didn't really look when I linked it, but yeah Taps on Main seems to have a lot of garbage on tap at the moment... and it's owned by a Bills fan. It's a pour your own establishment though, so it's nice to pour tasters. They've had better lists for sure.

If you're a bourbon drinker, both places have really good bourbon pours, too.

They had a freakin' killer stout selection just a couple weeks ago.... multiple Side Project stouts, WeldWerks, Term Oil.

Bills fan in KC. Yikes. Not a bourbon guy (or any spirit for that matter) but will probably try one or two while I'm in KC. Belfry looks good for that.

Yep, you were there either in the lead up to or during their anniversary week.

Still the only place that I've had Side Project on draft other than one of SP's own brick and mortar spots in Maplewood.

Sadly, no... I just pine for it from afar. :-)

I saw it on social media... I've never had a Side Project stout, but haven't ever gone out of my way for one, either, in terms of trading or whatever. Hours in St. Louis are really random, too, so the few times I've driven through, haven't been able to stop by or they didn't have anything.

I'll be there in couple weeks, too, but not sure if/when I'll make it to the Crossroads for beer.

Found a spot here in town, a honey hole if you will.

An old senile guy who evidently just buys anything from anyone.

This past weekend I found some More Smore's from Boulevard - 2 years old, some Desserted Pastry Stout from 3 Sheep's which is a local brewery - 4 years old, and some Buffalo Sweat Oatmeal Cookie Stout from Tallgrass which is from 2013.

I've had 2/3 and nothing funny tasting yet.

I'll probably try the one from Tallgrass this next weekend.

If ya'll don't ever hear from me again, you'll know why. :-)

Buffalo Sweat isn't oatmeal cookie stout, it's just a regular old 5.5% oatmeal stout. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that the beer tastes like copper pennies. It's way past its prime. WAY past. That beer wasn't made to be consumed past a year or two old anyway. Way too light in ABV.

Holler if you're in KC. I'll bring an SP stout up to O&S that we can share. I live in Lee's Summit but can get out pretty easily if you give me some warning.
