"She put her body on top of Lilly’s to try and protect her after the attack started," Bennard's uncle by marriage, Jeff Gibson told USA TODAY on Saturday. "Both (dogs) started attacking her while she lay on Lilly."The two children were pronounced dead when officials arrived at the home, the sheriff's office reported.

It was not immediately known what provoked the mauling. The mauling, Gibson said, lasted about 10 minutes. The dogs – two pit bulls that belonged to the family – were euthanized at Memphis Animal Services Thursday.

The family owned the pets, Cheech and Mia, for more than eight years without a violent incident, Kelsey Canfield, the mother's best friend, told Fox News.

"I can promise you those children were her world, and if there was any inkling of danger, she would have never had those dogs near her kids," Canfield told the outlet. "Those children were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead."

How do you feel about PittBull's? I posted this because my wife shared this story with me and my son was just recently participating in a "read to sheltered dogs" event where you could adopt a dog (I know brilliant).

I've heard the arguments that PittBull's get a bad wrap, but it seems time and time again they are the focal point of dogs who do these horrible acts.

:-)

It is a good suggestion, but I'd have to go lob meatball grenades into 50 backyards around here to take care of the problem.

We ain't talking about one pit.

Pitbull always seemed like a cheeseball, but I certainly would've never suspected him to be capable of something this horrific.

Hope he gets capital punishment or life without parole.

Some pit owners are responsible dog parents of a lovable family member.

I mean, I don't need to. Because I'm not stupid enough to have something with pit DNA in my house.

No you won't. You don't become a weapons expert just because you're pissed off.

John Wick uses high end firearms and trains. And listens to people who know what they're talking about. He didn't ask the guy in the gun showroom for some dogshit revolver with a crappy trigger just because his dad liked them.

It sounds like you actually want this to happen, which in itself is both disturbing and terrifying. Nobody should ever want to be involved in a defensive shooting, against an animal or a person. So many things can go wrong, and they can lead to any combination of death, serious injury, prison time, and/or getting sued into oblivion. Real life isn't a movie or a video game, and you aren't the hero.

The truth about the APBT is they have been raised endlessly to not be human aggressive as they handle them in the pit in the heat of battle. I have never seen one be food aggressive, game raised or not. They say the French bully is now the most popular breed but that’s BS. Pitbulls have been the most popular breed for a very long time and remain so, especially if you consider mixed breeds. When you mix that breed with another that is not nearly as mentally stable I would consider that irresponsible and potentially dangerous FWIW. For the most part though they are not getting the human aggression gene from pits. That said there are always bad dogs.
For a trip down memory when they wanted to kill many breeds awhile back they started with anything that looked like a pit in Donkeyland. The burden of proof was not on the government, it was on the owner. In Denver alone they killed almost 4000 dogs that were pits or looked like pits. Imagine your child watching the authorities take the dog they love and kill it. To me the people that condone this are sick, weak, fucking assholes. Back in the day when I posted on this subject a lot I proved over and over again when our MSM reported on a pit attack that the majority of the time back then they were not even pits. You remember those right? The nightly fear report with the picture of the drooling, rabid, fear inducing dog picture to go with the BS story.
Fortunately for this breed and many others they would like to go after the pendulum is going the other direction. I would say the vast majority of people know of several families with kids that have great pitbulls. The breed is athletic, fearless and loyal. For an experienced owner who is willing to put in the time this breed needs to really shine it is not only a good breed, it is a great breed. If you don't believe me, ask Patrick Mahomes
I count all of the CP pit owners I have any knowledge of, as in the "good hearted but naive" category on this issue... you, Dole, Lzen, Mahomes, whoever else... you all seem like normal people who try and do right with socializing, and just being decent people overall with your animals

Hell my ex wife, a 20 year paralegal from a fairly wealthy family who lives in a big fancy house has TWO, still can't believe she'd go for that when I knew her but thats another story... but the bottom line is you're arguments aren't persuasive with the vast majority of people

A lab snaps on you you're gonna get hurt but likely live, thats just NOT true with pits and rots... you guys have had success in raising them, what about people who haven't? You cannot avoid the fact they are prone to snapping with horrible consequences

You guys never want to acknowledge that they can and DO snap with alarming frequency, dear heavens I wish that Mahomes rumor wasn't true with two tykes running around

They like the toughness and aggression. Just how they like their men. It is the bad boy syndrome.

So enquiring minds want to know... does a lab or pit cause more life altering damage?
