Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

They might have recovered the fairing as well.

That view of the first stage thrusters firing followed by the entry burn was epic. I'm anxiously waiting on a gif of that.

Less than 3 minutes after this, it was standing stationary on a boat.

Looks like at least one of the grid fins got pretty toasted.

What their current recovery rate for the year? I know they were shooting for 70%, seems pretty likely now.

Payload delivered.

No "USA, USA, USA!" chants this time...

If you go back to when they resumed launches in December after the failure last spring...

Orbcomm OG2 - Landed at LZ-1 successfully. (success)
Jason 3 - Landed on OCISLY, but leg didn't lock out. (failure)
SES-9 - Landed hard on OCISLY. Made a big hole in the boat. (failure)
CRS-8 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success)
JCSAT-14 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success)
Thaicom-8 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success)

So they're at 67% right now, but the fact that they've landed three in a row, twice in the most difficult scenarios (GTO missions), bodes well.

Now they just have to re-launch one...
