Ladies and Gentlemen.
Start your Engines for the Lurker 500.
In this race of planet history, Lurkers, those with less than 100 posts per year of membership are challenged!
Myself, and other tenured members I shall designate will pose comments, statements or questions of Chiefs Planet History. Your job~your Challenge! is to explain the story behind the comment, link it to its originating poster....explain why its relevant or funny. Bonus points awarded for context.
How well do the lurkers know us? How versed are the lurkers in our history?
At the end of this thread, I will donate $20 to Chiefsplanet in the name of the determined winner. The contest will end when I determine the thread/contest has run its course.
Points will be awarded by myself to the first lurker with correct explanation of each event. Bonus points will be given to those with less than 10 total posts.
Tenured posters are allowed to participate in the thread, however until a lurker answers a question...do not give the answer, or anything more than subtle hints on questions that may pose difficulty. Once revealed of the true answer.....feel free to give your take or comment on that moment.

This is quite the thought-provoking question... Because I have only been a lurker for a year and a half (there-abouts) I haven't been around for so much of the planet's history and haven't read nearly as many threads as I think one needs to in order to answer this question completely. That being said, I sought out for the perfect thread to the best of my ability: one whose posts contain a rant by Bob Dole, an amusing post by skinbra berating Iowinian (no offense man, but he was funny), random ramblings by FAX regarding macadamia pastries or something, and a post by Mecca (so we could all check out the hot women he has in his sig). Posts by Chrstie Tynes and/or her mom as well as references to anti-freeze or funny pics of people passed out from drinking would all be bonuses. In addition, incorporation of ninjas and some reference to Carl's mullet in the 80s would have put said thread over the top.
Alas, the search engine seems to be down right now and I don't think a thread of that awesomeitude exists anywhere....ever (possibly until now - Ultra Peanut I'm looking in your direction).
I settled on the following thread located in the HOC, titled, "Guess what? Gretz call us classless and deranged":
http://chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=80624
IMO, this thread embodies not only what CP is about, but also shows the character, knowledge, wit, and humor of the posters that comprise CP. The thread's setting is right after Greg Robinson tendered his resignation. At the time there was a web site up called firegregrobinson.com that had a petition that called for Robinson's resignation which arguably had a hand in Greg stepping down. Our pal Bobby "3-chins" G wrote an article on KCchiefs.com shortly after the announcement calling out that website that was mostly the product of CP members.
So in answer to your question, Iowinian, "Which thread best defines what CP is about" I think Rain Man said it best in this thread:

While you were "covering the Pittsburgh Steelers in their glory years," we were loyal to the Chiefs. While Greg Robinson was serving the Denver Broncos and Dick Vermeil was leading the Eagles, we were loyal to the Chiefs. Through rain, snow, strikes, missed kicks, 32nd-ranked defenses, and nose tackles covering wide receivers, we have been loyal to the Chiefs.
The fan base is the ultimate dogged watchdog for the team. Without us, personal loyalties would have overridden the team's best interests, and Mr. Robinson would have returned to lead another disaster on defense. While we applaud his decorum during his resignation, that resignation was made possible only by the loyalty of the fans, and our hue and cry. I applaud the professional and polite authors of firegregrobinson.com for assisting in that process.
We were here before you, before Carl, before Dick, and before everyone but Lamar. We'll still be here when you're all long gone. You may fear us or ridicule us, but you really should respect our presence.
Bob Dole (a.k.a. Bob Damned Dole) did chime in with a classic rant, arguing for the Chiefs everyman:

Want to swap places for a year, Bobby? Bob Dole will most certainly enjoy cruising around town in your car that probably cost more than Bob Dole's house. Bob Dole has always wanted to attend the 101 Banquet--it would be really cool to do it on someone else's dime. See every Chiefs game for pay? Hell yes! Have a website where I can spout off my opinion like it means something?
Okay. Forget that last one.
Bob makes an excellent point with his last sentence: the CP is a website where opinions are heard. For instance, I came across the CP when reading an article (In California, mind you) by Whitlock mentioning the planet. I have no doubt there are others like me that have heard the reference to the planet and came to check it out. (Here's a big wink to Christie
:-))
Later in the post, memyselfi - who is a Raider fan, was taking the position that there was a thread on the planet that had gone too far with some of the pictures; the thread was called "Frazod, is that what you're looking for" (will add link when search function is back up.) in which there were apparently some photoshopped pics of GRob being bombed and shot and stuff (satire). To which tk13 then makes an excellent point, which illustrates the planet's defense of it's fellow brethren:

This thread even had the clout to bring out some lurkers to voice their opinions, such as a comment by sparkky:

He hasn't had an original thought in over 10 years.
Lastly, the thread points to the real, hard-hitting issues of the day, such as Baby Lee's existential question that was causing many Chiefs fans to have sleepless nights:

Think about THAT!!!!!
In a nut shell, this thread illustrates that the members (by and large - I won't stoop to Gretz's level and assume everyone is represented by a few. Still don't know why Donk and Raider fans post here...) are loyal, thoughtful, passionate, and damn funny. This site doesn't have the fanfare and number of hits it does because the Chiefs have had an excellent chance of winning the Super Bowl over the last 30+ years. People come here for their passion of the Chiefs, they stay for the Planeteers. God knows where my life would be without some of those poop threads guiding me through tough times... With that, I appreciate the people that keep this site up and running as well as the people that keep the quality of posts high, and I thank you.
God save the Chiefs!
