He's frantically searching twitter right now looking for validation as to why this is the best move the Broncos could possible make. It's gonna be great.
The best part is that the move will draw little to no pushback from the media. [Reply]

But if the Penner ownership group concludes Payton is right for the job, here's to guessing they do what's necessary to obtain his rights via trade with New Orleans. Dan Quinn is firmly in the mix. He acquitted himself well during last year's interview with the franchise, he has relationships in the building and has pedigree. And I'm not discounting ex-Stanford coach David Shaw. CEO Greg Penner is a Stanford alum who covets leadership and culture, which Shaw provided the Cardinal.
Graziano: It was suggested to me early in the process that Shaw would be a candidate for Payton's staff if Payton got the Broncos job, but obviously Shaw merits consideration as a head-coach candidate in his own right. My hunch would be that Quinn, who was thought to be a favorite for the Broncos job a year ago, would be the guy if Payton doesn't end up there. But as we've already said, we thought that last year and got surprised. Speaking of Denver, its defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero, is getting a lot of interviews elsewhere. If he doesn't get a head-coaching job somewhere else, I think it's possible Denver could keep him in his current role and he could be a hot candidate again this time next year.
Sean Payton has long been an admirer of David Shaw:
Spoiler!
“My challenge always is this, and I use an example all the time. I worked with David Shaw in Philadelphia (with the Eagles), I think he’s an extremely bright candidate. Stanford graduate, he coaches at his alma mater. Every time I bring his name up, everyone says ‘David’s staying in college.’ And I understand that.”
“But you know, Steve Spurrier was staying in college. And Nick Saban was staying in college. And there have been a number of college coaches staying in college. And at some point someone says, ‘No you’re coming here, because we’re gonna make you take this job with this amount of money.’ You follow me? Matt Rhule was staying in college, had two teams (recruiting him).”
“Why is it that a young, talented coach, Stanford graduate, West Coast Offense, offensive guy; and I always begin with David because I know him, I know how talented he is. Now he may turn down all of those opportunities. But you know what, he didn’t have those opportunities where someone said, ‘We have to have him.’ Because someone said ‘We have to have Nick, or Steve, or Matt.'”

Folks, I was told this by someone close to the situation about the reasoning but had not been able to confirm it so I should have never mentioned it in a public forum. I certainly wasn't "reporting" it and didn't expect this to become "a thing" in Denver. My regrets & apologies.
:-) So apparently the narrative now is Ownership is already sick and tired of Payton running his mouth to the media about everything and are just about ready to wash their hands of it.
Edit: Duncan already deleted it, but this is the context of what they're talking about and why Broncos ownership aren't too happy with his loose lips
I'd like to doubt the report, but @JeffDuncan_ is as plugged-in as it gets.
