Can't blame Payton for using the Donks to get a bigger deal from Fox.
If I were Payton I'd tell Peener I'll coach your team stuck with the cringe QB, no draft picks, and terrible GM for $150M for 5 years, fully guaranteed. Take it or leave it. He likely knows deep down how overrated he is. Why not put up with 5 years of losing if they're going to guarantee him that much? $30M per year can mask a lot of pain and professional humiliation. He sounds in that interview like he prefers the Texans.
I’m holding out hope he goes to Denver, though. Payton would kill their cap so bad to try to get the most out of Wilson and would put a bunch of average players on big money contracts “on credit cards” by giving them big cash signing bonuses that will continue to hurt their cap badly when they are finally able to move on from WalRuss in 3 years.
That what he’s always done.
Dan Snyder 2.0 as owner
Coach that likes giving out big contracts to guys he needs to cut in a year or 2, every year.
The fact they will need to use big signing bonuses to lure player to Denver and to help with immediate cap hits because of the limitations Russels contract ensures.
Reduced draft picks means the free agent choices need to all be home runs snd Payton’s history shows the ability to be the polar opposite of that. [Reply]
Chargers are they only team they can occasionally beat. Losing to Reid and McDaniels ain't bad. Losing to Staley is another level of depression [Reply]
Rumor is Condoleeza and the Waltons didn't even know who Payton was and accidentally interviewed Kevin James instead for Broncos coach after watching that terrible movie [Reply]

IMO, he wanted either Dallas or LAC. And between those two, he preferred Dallas. The Dallas job still might open up if they were to get blown out, or lose due to a bad coaching decision, to the 49'ers..:-)
But yeah, he's not gonna leave Fox for what's out there now. [Reply]
