OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

The most successful quarterbacks are the ones that can eliminate those horrendous plays and take advantage of what the defense gives them. In the NFL, an outstanding play doesn't negate a bad mistake. When you're making mistakes you bring out your defense which is more susceptible to exhaustion than the offense

And yes, company line is there is no competition for the starting QB spot.

But after one week the real battle appears to be between Smith and Mahomes.

Last year at this time in Philly, Bradford was #1 and Wentz was going to be #3.
Why would they be running scout team stuff in camp? They're doing their own install still

Patrick Mahomes II is quick to learn from his mistakes and not do them again. Andy Reid has bragged about Patrick learning from his mistakes.

I assume making the punt team come out more often than leading scoring drives would be of mistakes that keeps putting the defense on the field & is more susceptible to exhaustion than the offense. We won't have that trouble moving on with Patrick Mahomes II because he will be making more touchdowns than punts.

How many punts did the Chiefs average in 2016?

Wish there was a stat to show how he did against the blitz. We know he's very accurate in a clean Pocket, one of the best coming out of college

It's his arm mechanics that they were mostly working on during the offseason. I read an article talking about him working with a QB coach to get his elbow higher.

Sure, when he's moving to the side or backwards. When he's standing in a clean pocket his mechanics are fine.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that's what he said. :-)
Yes, Reid did state that he's not a big "mechanics" guy, and that he wouldn't be spending much time on them. And i agree with Reid.

Bad mechanics are only bad if they result in poor play. Otherwise it's known as "creativity" or "multiple throwing angles". More often than not, his mechanically bad throws end up being marvelous completions. You know...."creativity" in the pocket. Which, according to Dorsey, was a big part of the reason he was drafted.

I agree with Detoxing. Look at Phillip Rivers, his mechanics are s**t but he makes it work.

I just read yesterday somewhere that Mahomes was running NE plays for the defense to practice against.

I also read there are still the 3 or 4 offensive installs left that you talk about.

Just going off of what I read.

Edit:

Read it here:
