If you take away Von Miller, who are these great players Elway has drafted?
Chris Harris
Bradley Roby
Malik Jackson
That's all I'm seeing.
Von Miller was a no brainer. The 2011 draft was the best class in a very long time. He could have drafted any top 5 player and it would have been a home run it was that loaded at the top.
Unfortunately Dorsey's first draft was one of the worst in NFL history and he still got a solid LT and pro bowl TE. He also has been without a top 3 draft pick in 3/4 years here.
The jury is still out on his 2014 draft, but Dorsey crushed the 2015 draft. 2 pro bowl talents back-to-back, very good ST player and a WR who looks like he could be a good #2.
If you point to Dorsey's flaws, most will say Dee Ford. Elway has multiple Dee Ford question marks. Some even worse. Montee Ball, Cody Latimer, Schofield, Sylvester Williams, Osweiler failing miserably. That's 5 early rd disasters alone.
Manning did everything for Denver literally. Hidding a horrific OL and attracting all the FA's at good deals helped Elway more than Dorsey. Now all that is gone. Sanchez can't make a bad OL look good (saw the same from Osweiler) and Denver's FA's consist of a broken LT and our trash (Stephenson).
It's looking like 8-8 in Denver to me. [Reply]

Teams couldn't run on us at all, I'd like to think Sly Williams was a big reason why. He's been one of the better first round picks from that 2013 draft. [Reply]

He plays 60% of the snaps. Kind of hard to get more playing time than that when you have two of the top 5 CB's in the league starting ahead of you. He'd start for every other team in the league. [Reply]
Elway has done a fine job in his role. He's had some great draft picks and some bad ones, shocking! And yeah, a number of those guys came because of Manning. Now, Elway gets to prove what he can do without a star QB. [Reply]

He already proved it. They won a playoff game with Tebow [Reply]

Yeah, that doesn't really count though... that was a weird season. That team rode an odd wave of momentum with Tebow. The defense rallied and really played amazing at times, compared to what they were doing with Orton. They hung around just long enough for something good to happen.
I don't count winning a playoff game with Tebow or ending the season on that run when considering what John can do without a star QB. Elway didn't draft him and the change was made more from a "f--- it, let's see what happens" frame of mind. [Reply]
