Nzoner's Game Room>***Official Soccer Thread***
POND_OF_RED 10:14 AM 08-06-2021
Creating a new thread for soccer discussion since the Euro’s are done.

Most leagues are in preseason and Sporting KC are currently in a battle for the best record in the league to win the shield. We just sent Busio who’s a young Sporting youth academy player and possible future American star to Venezia to compete in the top division in Italy for a 6.5 million dollar transfer fee with up to $11 million with incentives and a 20% future sell-on rate if they sell him to another team. Not to mention another past youth academy player from Lee’s Summit and another possible World Cup starter Erik Palmer-Brown looks to be joining him at Venezia soon as well. If you’re looking for an Italian team to start rooting for with your new Paramount+ subscription they would be a good candidate with some local flavor.

The U.S has built a little power shift in the CONCACAF region with their wins over Mexico lately in Nations and Gold Cup finals and look to be in really good shape heading into the World Cup qualifiers next month.

Messi looks to be on the move as well. Let’s hope it’s not a worthless one to PSG for everyone’s sake.

Ok, CP feel free to remind me how gay soccer is now. Don’t care. Sporting is kicking ass and so is the USA. It’s a good time to be following along. Discuss…
Spoiler!

He also fought the assholes who were more interested in growing mls to a the usmnt by insisting that players play in Europe. Feel like that laid the grounwork for this to finally happen naturally .I’m not sure that Jurgen is an all world coach but his place in usmnts underwhelming history is a good one

your memory is a bit fuzzy on that.

We were in the group with portugal, and lost to the germans in the round of 16.

JFC if you are going to correct someone at least be correct about it.

2014 USA was in Group G along with Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Germany and USA advanced where the USA then lost to Belgium.

Jurgen Klinsmann is one of the many reasons Ronaldo will end his career without a single knockout round goal in the World Cup! It’s crazy how fast the federation wanted him out, but somehow gave Berhalter a second chance. I think most USA fans would take Jurgen back over this disaster. Jurgen got us into the Copa semifinals with Bobby Wood and fucking Gyasi Zardes.

Also, Peter Vermes blew another match late last night. How many chances did that one MLS cup over 10 years ago actually buy this man? Is it a lifetime contract or something? Do we actually have to root for the man to die unexpectedly to free us from this nightmare or something?

Something tells me the big names aren't exactly knocking the door down to take this job.
Haha remember when the Canucks thought we were after Jesse ****ing Marsch?!

I hadn't realized that the Chelsea fired him after one season. He's better than what we had but he's not really that good. Although I will say that Chelsea was one of the best teams in the second half of the season last year.

Chelsea’s ownership group is an absolute shit show. They won the last 6 matches of the season last year to stay in the top 6 and still decided to go another direction, but the decision was very mutual because I don’t know many coaches that would want to work for that ownership group. BlueCo is an absolute disaster. He’s absolutely tremendous with player development as well and his high press style should definitely mesh well with the players we have. He was Englands top choice to take over for Southgate as well so that’s an added bonus. Now they’ll have to settle for Potter or Howe and wonder what could have been when 2026 rolls around. There was definitely not a better choice than Poch. They finally got it right. Somehow it all worked out for the best

From dreaming on Klopp to Pochettino? :-)

It’s gonna be funny to come back to this post in a year or two after Canada is still outperforming them.

From dreaming of Klopp to settling for the best coach available. How crazy. Remember when you were convinced we were trying to poach a coach from Canada because he made it out of his group in Copa then claimed there wouldn’t be any big names knocking on the door?! Pochettino is a huge splash and stealing him from England makes it that much sweeter. No one in the US regrets not hiring Jesse fucking Marsch anymore. This all played out perfectly. The best thing BlueCo has done since taking over at Chelsea was idiotically making this a possibility for the USMNT!

Without a doubt this is a good hire and best of all it finally gives a clean break from the incest between MLS and USMNT. I just hope we don't do the same thing with klingsmann and ignore his advice on how we compete on the international stage. The coach itself isn't going to fix everything. This has to be a top down change on how we bring and develop the best possible talent for our squad.

Now watch Pochettino end up being a disappointment and the US ends up hiring Marsch from Canada post-2026 World Cup. :-)

I'll remember this one.

As a Liverpool supporter (yes I wear a lot of Red) I would love for Klopp to coach here, but then I'd be like WTF. We'll see how the Slot managed team does this year. Nunez needs to finish and the midfield has to be better.
