I can't understand his logic there regarding getting ahead of the curve either. What was he so afraid of? At most Jackson, Burrow, and Herbert maybe drive it up an extra 5 million AAV or so, and that's if they sign before Wilson in the 2023 off-season. The fear that QB contracts will shift towards being fully guaranteed? The deal Russ has now effectively ties him through 2026 and even that comes with a dead hot of 30 million to get out of.

There's no justifiable reason for signing him to an extension that early when the trade off was as potentially disastrous as it ultimately turned out to be.

So I heard that this Russ guy was going to close the gap for Denver this year....

Except he would have held out...pretty bad look before you've played a snap.

Wilson had them over a barrel...

It's why he didnt play in the preseaon until it was finalized...

It was also part of the sale...like I've said, you dont spend $250 million on a QB without the new owners signing off on it. They are the ones who will be paying him...

Paton was doing what he was told...GMs cant just haphazardly spend other people's money.

New ownership wanted a name brand QB to usher in their "era"....needed to do something to generate interest with KC winning 13 straight.

It's completely gone sideways...if not for all the injuries, I would theorize that it was being set-up to make Wilson a hero. I haven't written them off yet...NFL loves it's comeback narratives. There are a lot of 3 win teams right now. If they could make the 2015 Donk champs with the 30th ranked QB...and Oswieler pulling off 4th quarter comeback wins against the Patriots, they can manufacture anything.
And, that is what many are clinging on to.. but still, in 2015, the offense was not this sad through 7 games. They were 7-0 at this point and only failed to break 23 points scored twice, with the lows being 19-13 vs BAL and 16-10 vs RAI. They played 2 of their first 3 and 4 of the first 7 on the road, so there was no home benefit.

If/when Denver enters the bye at 2-6, they're toast and I don't know that anyone could pull the required strings to manufacture that comeback you mention.

Enter the bye at 3-5 and it's still a tall order, but hey - if the NFL can make it happen, let's ride yeah? :-)

Denver has 9 games after the bye with 5 road games, 2 of the final 3 are on the road. They play KC twice in the final 5. There is no way they turn this around...

Unless I'm mistaken, Wilson could veto any trade. I think the only reason he agreed to be traded to Denver was a promise of a large contract before any playing actually took place.

Well, that's a pretty good reason to not do the trade at all then.

Chiefs just felt around in their couch cushions and landed a WR with more upside than anyone on the Donks roster.

Wilson has zero trade value right now. Less than zero with that contract and his pathetic play.

As an added bonus, he won't do the honorable thing by retiring either. I can't blame him for not walking away from that sack. He's just going to sit back and let the money flow and there isn't shit the donks can do about. It's wonderful watching them implode

I’m still skeptical too, this could just be part of the show.

He's closing a gap for sure but not with us. He's closing the gap between Denver and whatever team Baker Mayfield plays for.
