Shotgun season opens this weekend in Iowania.
While there are no big deer left in Iowa, and there is no reason for out of staters to come here anymore.......my gun, and backup are cleaned, sighted in and ready to roll at daylight saturday morning.

That's terrible news about your friend, Mr. Iowanian. An unmitigated sin of shameful and unprecedented proportions on the part of the horrid thief. What's a Trophy mount?

Lots of deer here. We have 5 or 6 in our backyard every morning and evening making their way to the river and back. The buck stands off in the woods while the does eat my grass. Watching them is quite similar to viewing the African water hole.

Is it fair and legal to shoot them from the back deck?

I see. A big head. That's a very nice one. Reminds me of Wyoming.

What about shooting deer from your back deck? Please advise as it is quite tempting.

Use a Bow, skin, season, Cook on fire...enjoy.

Silent but deadly.

PM...I know alot of people might be proud of that buck, and in other states, I'm sure its a good one, however, I've set high standards for the deer I want to take with a bow, and I don't like it when I set rules for myself and backtrack at the moment of truth....Its not unlike playing blackjack..It used to be, I'd have $290 in front of me, with the goal of $300 and i'd end up giving it all back for $10....I said I wouldnt' do that again.....and last week, I had $400, decided to get greedy and go after $500, and only brought home 100....foolish.

If I'd have passed on that buck, even if I ended up not filling a tag(which I've done a few years waiting on a fatboy), he could have been a very nice one next year. They can't get to 150-160 class when you kill them at that size.

I'm about 3 weeks from breaking the cherry on my new slug gun....Binelli supernova.
Binelli. Nice. Know the name well from my old man. Made in Italy? I think that is still true. Correct?

Alas, I have no bow, Mr. Iowanian. I do, however, have a .30-06.

If I am interpreting you correctly, you are saying that there is no legal, moral, or philosophical issue with harvesting deer in your own back yard.

This is good news.

Do you own a rifle?

Is it rifle season where you live?

Are you able to obtain a antlered deer tag?

Do you live outside the city limits with a clear shot that has no houses beyond?

If you can answer yes to all of the above, fire away!

Oddly enough, that is just about identical to the pose I chose for mine.

That is not one of mine.....that is just an example I was able to google for the benefit of Fax.

Fax...
Every state has different regulations for harvesting of deer/animals. You'd surely require a license and a tag...if you live in corporate boundaries, that opens up issues with firearms discharged in the city.

Thank you for the information, gentlemen.

My homestead is outside the city so that's not a problem. I'll need the license required to clear this venture with the local authorities, however. I shall keep you posted on the results.

Should be interesting.

Fax, it appears that rifle season is open right now in Tennessee (if that is where you live - I'm guessing from your location below your avatar)

Here's a link to Tennessee's hunting site:

Yes, Mr. PastorMikH. I'm in Nashville. And, there are more deer here than orthodontic candidates which is saying something. I think I have until the 3rd or so.

I have to get a license and find someone to dress the deer. I seriously doubt if I can convince the beautiful and witty Mrs. FAX to handle that part even if I drag it back to the cave myself.

Just load him up and take him to someone who processes deer. They take delivery of a furball and return it neatly wrapped in paper ready to cook.

I'll find someone, Mr. PastorMikH. Surely there are plenty of places ... I have not had the need prior to now.

Do you know the off-hand, approximate cost of such a service in your area?
