You have NHL but 95% of the teams are in the US. We took over your only league.

Yes, the sport where Canada has more golds than anyone else by a wide margin despite NHL players not being allowed in the Olympics for most of their history (including during the Olympic year you are referring to).

So no, I don’t think Canada soccer has to do the equivalent of that at all given USA’s own relatively meagre history at the sport.

We’ve been to 11 world cups finishing 3rd place in the inaugural one. Your country hasn’t even scored a single point in group play at the World Cup in the 2 times they’ve managed to make it. You should be worrying about just getting a result for once.

They have made a movie equivalent to this Canadian Copa run the more I think about it. It’s called Cool Runnings. A group of nobodies that nobody believed in, that crashed before the finish line, but they managed to exceed the lowest expectations possible so the country became delusional with pride.
