Nzoner's Game Room>Andy Reid called me, and he asked CP to fix the offense.
Direckshun 07:39 AM 09-23-2024
I think we can all agree the offense has not been up to par this season.

At this point, there's only so much we can do about it. Our best WR got injured and is missing the season, our best RB is out until December, our LT situation is messy and our stud TE is looking his age.

So, is this who we are now? Is 30 points a game a distant memory?

What can be done?

(Andy Reid is lurking in this thread, so make sure you're on your best behavior.)

Have you seen the GDTs? For a lot of people it is.

I actually avoid them for that exact reason. Which is fine. You get what you want out of CP.

That's fair enough.

I'm nothing if not opinionated.

But at a point, unless we're talking about Greg Robinson, I have to assume that these guys aren't missing any issues that I'm seeing.

And when their baseline philosophy is roughly the same as mine (i.e. not Herm Edwards), then I can presume they're going to see roughly the same solutions to those problems as I do.

And then I have little choice but to acknowledge a basic knowledge asymmetry. It's their JOB. They eat, breath and sleep it. If I think there's something they should be doing and they aren't, there's a reason for that.

And if it isn't some philosophical distinction, nor is that they're retarded (Greg Robinson) then I have to presume that reason is based on something I don't know or have not seen.

That's why if I think there's a simple solution, the first thing I'll do is ask why that solution may not work. In this case, where I think crossers, drags, digs and some deeper outs could easily cut up this stupid Cover 2 that everyone's fallen in love with, I figure it has to be a protection issue.

Because it isn't that Reid (or even Nagy) don't have access to the film of teams ripping this defense to shreds over the last couple decades. Hell, Reid specifically has plenty of firsthand knowledge of it. He was part of blasting that stupid defense into the sun.

There's just no utility in getting that granular if you believe in the general knowledge, intelligence and philosophy of the current leadership.

And given the hardware, I'm not sure how you couldn't.

We could really use some speed in the RB room. Pacheco and Steele are nice/solid RBs but this offense could take a step forward with a home run hitter in the backfield. Getting 6,7,8 yard runs is great but could really use a guy that could punish defenses for playing so far back.

I wish they'd go back to using Hardman as a sort of extension of the run game with those sweeps. For some reason he had a really good eye for creases.

The only mention of chipping is Rice. And, seriously, we're not beating the **** out of him enough currently? Throw Skyy Moore out there as a meat shield before having Rice do it.
Well they didn’t really need to chip bc they either ran the ball or got rid of it quickly. They even rolled Patrick out the right once and Hendrickson still got pressure on Patrick.

Gameplan looked quite similar to the Atlanta game tbh.

It feels like a lot of the playbook is being taken out bc the LT’s aren’t playable for those plays

Difficult to run wide against soft zone coverages because the safeties (and LBs) are slow to commit downhill so they can slide with the blocking pretty easily and almost always beat you to the edge.

It's why I think we're seeing fewer and fewer outside zone looks from the Chiefs run game this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them continue almost to a strict gap system. I guess they could try to incorporate some cut backs; get the defenses stretched and then cut back into the vacated backside gaps, but that's gonna require really good vision and when you're trying to do it with a WR on a reverse look, you've got a LOT of momentum to get moving the other direction.

The WR sweeps seem to be steering into the skid a little bit. I suspect that's a large part of the reason we've moved away from them.

Wondering if any of the WRs currently get work out of the back field in practice taking handoffs Toney actually got a few in games and I remember Moore doing some in practice.

I suspect we are going to see a bunch more games that look like tinkering as Veach and Reid evaluate and test out what they have.

If the offense still looks stuck a month from now I think Veach gets on the phone and makes a move to get a vet LT or a playmaking WR on the roster.

It's Andy's offense. No matter who is the OC.

If you have major problems with it, you have problems with Andy Reid and his approach to offense.

Now, that's totally fine to hold that opinion.

But like the man said-

We don't have to RESPECT everyone's opinion. We have to ACKNOWLEDGE their opinion, but we have every right to tell them when it's FUCKING STUPID.

We don't sit in on offensive meetings. We don't watch every practice. We only know what our interpretation of what happens on the field 17 (in our case 20) times per year.

If you think you know more than the front office and coaching staff that have won 3 Super Bowls in 5 years, you're nuts.

They're not infallible, but their track record is pretty damned stellar. Maybe we ought to assume they know what they're doing and have good reasons for what they do.

It's Andy's offense in the playoffs. There is a lot of reasons to believe he has been delegating more to Nagy the last two years during the regular season and the results speak for themselves.

Cover 2 has been around for ages.. It’s not a new defensive trick.. It comes and goes around the league like a new fad.. Andy has schemed against it his whole career.. I think some of our hiccups are execution related.. I do think he keeps some of the good stuff back till he needs it though…
