Today, the Kansas City Chiefs complete the greatest five-year run in NFL history by winning the third Super Bowl in the Patrick Mahomes era, and the fourth in the franchise's glorious history.

Getting the ball 3rd only works if both teams exchange FGs. Then everyone would say Shanahan was a genius. That's literally the only scenario though.
Getting the ball 3rd doesn't make sense if both teams score a TD, because a reasonable mind would infer the Chiefs are going for two with Mahomes instead of putting a tired defense back on the field with the opposition only needing a FG. [Reply]

Don't worry. As soon as this happens they'll come up with some bullshit rule that says if a team takes the lead with a 2 point conversion, the other team gets a chance at a 2-point conversion on an untimed down, and the teams have to exchange 2-point conversion chances until one fails. [Reply]

I don't think it mattered what Rat Jr. did. No way Mahomes was losing that game at that point. However, I do sorta get the logic. Taking the ball first is the only way to set yourself up to have two shots to win.
1. Score any points and although it felt inevitable that Pat and the boys would do what they did, a tipped ball, a brutal penalty, a stupid fumble, a guy running backwards 10 yards after catching a pass (oh wait),etc. There is at least a universe that exists where the Chiefs could've not scored.
2. The oft mentioned if the Chiefs would've been held to a FG attempt (only chance was a long 4th down in FG range. Chiefs were going for 4th and 4 at the Niners 20 or whatever, I bet) then the Niners would've had the elusive 3rd posession.
All things considered I probably would've kicked off and said to myself "fuck it, stop them here and go win or bust" but I get why he did what he did.

He really ****ed up that fumble recovery running his mouth for no reason. "Hi George"
Sounded like Lennie Small out there. If I were one of his teammates that would really piss me off. If he was focused on the ball and the game and playing through the whistle he would've recovered that. [Reply]

Again, not sure it mattered.
The most logical reason for him to take the ball first would be that his defense was worn out and so was the Chiefs defense. Let your defense rest on the sidelines while you try to get a quick TD on the other team's worn out defense. [Reply]

What kills me about the mic'd up footage, is just what a joke around goofball he was being the whole time... absolutely no game face, no fiery exhortations
Jacking around being the joker on the sidelines etc, it all just rubbed me the wrong way... you're not Joe Montana pointing out John Candy in the stands, get your damn game face on dude [Reply]

Same for Bosa. Dude sounds baked as hell and totally out of it.
My favorite clip from him was something like, "this is not fun at all". [Reply]
