What the **** are the Lakers thinking? Will be interesting to see if Luka finally hits the gym now and stops wasting all that talent. Doubt LeBron lets him just sit on his fat ass like he’s done in Dallas. [Reply]
If the Mavs decided they suddenly didn't like Luka Doncic and didn't want to extend him, whatever
The best deal they could get in a league where teams spend years building up assets *praying* a scenario like this happens is 31-year-old Anthony Davis and a 2029 first-round pick?

They’re probably thinking we just added a top 5 player in the NBA at age 25 for AD and who gives a shit what LeBron thinks about it?
They just guaranteed being a contender for the next half decade at least with this trade. It’s not about this season (and it’s not like the LeBron/AD combo was going to get them another title anyway). [Reply]

Hopefully Lebron can wake up that drive in him. Everything I’m reading is that the Mavs are tired of seeing the lack of commitment from their “superstar” since he got over 270 lbs and doesn’t look like he has any plans to hit the gym anytime soon. He’s definitely getting to that age that pure talent isn’t going to cut it anymore.
Luka Doncic has reached up to 270 pounds and the Mavericks were growing concerned, per ESPN pic.twitter.com/sNksitvyeY
Trout is a complete after thought heading into 2025. He hasn't been revelvant since 2022.
It's more like Witt for Freddie Freeman.
Solely because of injuries, not talent. Trout is still a 140-150 wRC+ CF right now, he has not stopped being one of the best players in baseball whenever he steps foot on a baseball field.
AD remains a very good player too but his issues are more motivational than injury at this point. He will no show a few playoff games as he always does and Dallas will be eliminated.
And Witt for Freeman is a fine comparison, it would be similarly insane. [Reply]

He literally carried Dallas to the NBA Finals just last year (and that was two years after he previously took them to the WCF) and they dealt him for past his prime/oft injured/lazy AD and a single 1st round pick four years from now. This trade is insanely stupid no matter what his weight is. The guy could start looking like Fat Bastard from Austin Powers and it would still easily the dumbest thing any FO has ever done in this sport. [Reply]
Just think about the haul a team like OKC would have given the Mavs with all of their young players and draft picks. Literally any other bad team in the league would have traded any decent player and all of their picks just for the right to have Luka and they didn’t even ****ing ask around? Teams spend years waiting for this kind of opportunity.
This is so unbelievably off-the-wall and illogical that it’s the kind of trade that gets vetoed in fantasy leagues. [Reply]
