Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?
Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? [Reply]
I'm nearly finished building my AR-10 (.308win). My brother and I built a pair of them, nearly identical. Aero M5 upper and lower, Criterion Hybrid 18" barrel, A2 flash supp, Geisselle SSA-E trigger, Magpul Bipod, and a Hogue Hand grip.
Our real only differences were optics and hand grip. I went with a SWFA SS 10x42 scope. I figure if the crayon eating Marine snipers couldn't break it, then I should be good to go. All I have left to do is get some spacer washers to line up the flash suppressor correctly, and then level and zero the scope and I get to go pew pew.

That was his first shot he took at 400. The target was 10x10. Damn right I got excited! :-)
The 500 gong is 24" round so it's a slightly easier shot. I also have 4 smaller AR-100 plates next to the gong. One is the size of a postcard, but if you do your job with the SSG 04 it will ring it every time. [Reply]

I figured there was a reason for it. With out the context though it just struck me in an amusing way. No negative connotations, just amused. [Reply]

Bomb-proof and good enough. Hell, I normally don't go past 10x unless shooting small targets at 1000+. The mirage gets insane anyway.
Trying to teach my son that more mag isn't better, but keeping the power down gives you a lot better view of what might come into your sights.
Nice rifle!
Thanks my dude. The longest range around me only goes out to 600 yards, and I can't see myself ever shooting past 800-1000 with .308 anyway. Didn't seem to make much sense to buy some $1500 scope when this $350 SWFA would be just fine. [Reply]

Glass can be......addictive. It all comes down to having accurate adjustments and being able to repeat it over and over.
Snipershide has an entire subforum where they check the adjustments to see the error. Amazing stuff.
The SS and HD are highly repetitive and the HD has excellent glass. (The 5-20HD was my first "high end" scope.)
Your bullets are going to go subsonic with an 18" barrel around 900-850 yards on most days. That doesn't mean you can't pop balloons at 1000, the bullets will scatter a little more that last little stretch. [Reply]

I have spent way too much time on SH. Was going to buy the Bergara B14 HMR because I love bolt action rifles lol. However, little bro intervened and mad esome salient points about the usefulness of semi auto. [Reply]

It's a great website, and their buy/sell/trade forum has been very good to me.
My first long-range rifle was what you built, only mine was all Armalite SASS about 10 years ago. Highly accurate rifle, and can throw a shitload of lead downrange in a hurry. Love that rifle.

Heavy as hell, though.
The SASS is dope af. I believe our snipers used to roll with it. This AR10 isn't as heavy as I thought it'd be. It's about 11.5lbs fully loaded. I've carried heavier things, it's half the weight of a loaded SAW. We designed it as a jack of all trades type gun. We can reach out and touch something, use in CQB or urban environments. [Reply]
