This is one of the most surprising things I’ve read on this forum. [Reply]
Oof. Kind of forgot about skill based matchmaking. Yeah, you'll eventually run into nothing but entire teams running meta builds if you're even halfway decent. Also, it's just not the same anymore chat wise. That used to be some super toxic shit but now people mostly contain themselves in parties. Missing some of the 'charm'. [Reply]

So you pick the one year where Von Miller was hurt, and your defense already didn't have a lot of talent, while ignoring 2019 and 2021?
Awfully convenient.
There's a reason I used the word "overachieved". I don't think you guys ever had a ton of talent on that side of the ball while Fangio was there, but it's easy to see he got the most out of it.
I'm sure your rookie DC is better than one of the best in the business though! [Reply]

Injuries happen every year. Look at his career. His defenses got worse every year in Carolina, then got worse every year in Indy, worse every year in Houston, where he ended with the worst defense in the league.
He was then gifted with an absolutely loaded defense in SF, where he did well but never hit #1 in the league. He went to another loaded roster in Chicago where he did okay for 3 years and then had one really good year. Apparently Elway and Ellis have an attention span of one season, because this was enough for them to hire him. He is not one of the best in the business. [Reply]

So you're going back to before his days in SF, around 20 years ago, to try to change the narrative that Vic Fangio is one of the best defensive coordinators in the business?
That's like saying Andy Reid isn't one of the best HCs in the business because his Eagles teams sucked towards the end of his tenure there.
There's not a single DC in NFL history that has consistent success without talent, except maybe BB. You absolutely need talent on that side of the ball to be successful.
Even if you think he's a bit overrated, there's absolutely no reason to think a rookie DC is as good, more or less and upgrade.
You absolutely downgraded in defensive coaching until proven otherwise. [Reply]
