The U.S. Coast Guard was looking for the submarine Monday morning after it disappeared during the expedition from St. John's, N.L. The infamous 1912 wreck is located more than 600 kilometres southeast of the province in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The trip to the Titanic was being run by OceanGate Expeditions, a U.S.-based company. It uses a five-person submersible named Titan to reach the wreckage 3,800 metres below the surface. OceanGate's website advertises a seven-night voyage to the Titanic for US$250,000 per person, or approximately CA$330,000.
"We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely," an OceanGate spokesperson said in an email to CTV News. "Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families."

Those tours are a series of five eight-day missions to the Titanic with the money raised by tourists going towards Titanic research. Posts on social media show the ship launched from the St. John's area last week.

Did they really have 5 people in this?? Or do they have a larger version??

So if they are below the surface they died of hypothermia. If they are floating somewhere on the surface, they probably baked in the sun and died of heatstroke. At least there is plenty of oxygen as nobody would be consuming it at this point.

They're bolted in either way. Highly doubt there's more oxygen coming in whether they're 2 miles down or 2 miles up.

I'm having a hard time garnering sympathy for people who allow themselves to be bolted into a one way barrel that's controlled by a wireless video game controller.

If you didn't see the writing on the wall on this one then I'm not sure what to say.

Maybe he wasn't.

(Insert shocking reveal music here.)

It would really stink to be in that sub and then just before they bolt it closed, the CEO climbs out and reveals in James Bond fashion that he's about to fake his own death, and you're collateral damage.

Or maybe - MAYBE! - they're all faking their own deaths. That would make more sense. The CEO knows that his venture is failing, so he recruited two billionaires who want to fake their own deaths, and they're going to pay him handsomely to do it in a manner that is virtually untraceable. They hired a veteran diver to go with them, because as soon as they sink under the water, the diver will help them transfer to a different submarine that's just below the surface.

And as for the 19 year-old kid, his dad is a boomer who insists that they're "best friends" so he had to bring the kid along.

It all makes so much sense now.

Oh, and I'm calling dibs on movie rights. The plot is now copyrighted in 2023 by Rain Man. If anyone wants to make this movie, contact me for sales rights. I'll even write the screenplay as part of the deal.

They're probably butt ass naked, slathered in each other's feces and cuddling to stay warm.

Good point.

They may write a policy, but that's pretty obviously gonna be an excluded activity. You'd still be able to insure him for, I dunno, getting hit by a bus. But yeah - can't imagine anybody's insuring him without specifically writing this sort of thing out of the policy.

Retracted.

Do people worth 50 billion dollars even bother with life insurance?

If you thought this story can't get weirder, that Blink 182 guy was in prison for stalking

Not even two years later, they release him from prison and don’t notify me. I find out through social media that he’s following all my friends.

Now I find out his step dad is a supposed billionaire who paid $250k to see the titanic wreckage???? So confused rn lol https://t.co/C2qQNOVD8A

Was just watching an update and they are having to now scan a 5000 sq mile area. I'm like why, go to the titantic and see if they need a lift.

But if they became disengaged at say 10,000 feet then the current is moving them at 100- to 500 feet every minute which means they could be anywhere.
