Pretty alarmist, IMO, but possible.

Spoiler!

http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl

$1.00 / gallon in 1998 = $2.01 / gallon in 2015

$10 / barrel = $20.06 / barrel in 2015

I was frigging shocked how cheap gas was when I came home for Christmas break. Dane's right, only I live in Studio City where it's actually more expensive than Burbank. Screw the gas prices. We're getting hosed.

When all you rich people decide to live in the same spot, you deserve to get fucked.

Anywhere you have to have reformulated gas, you will pay more. Plus I'm sure Cali has about a million extra taxes.

My area has been stagnant for some time now.

It sucked when I lived in Chicago too. You could see the damn refineries, but we had to use reformulated gas and the extra taxes were brutal. 90% of the gas they refined at those plants was sent elsewhere.

Yep. At these prices, the Saudis have likely done their damage to our production. ~50% of our production is going to cease at $30.00/barrel. Maybe more. But, if OPEC curtails production, crude will rise and that helps our production. There's a sweet spot in here for everyone (pun intended).

$1.76 in Central Maryland for regular this morning at the local Costco.

However, you have to factor in about $0.20+ in state and county taxes on that.

$1.59 in Central Virginia last week.

Yeah, a buddy of mine lives in Weatherford, Texas. Drives for an oil company. Doesn't deliver crude, but he pulls water from wells. He was laid off last summer.

I love low gas prices as much as anyone, but not to the point where people are losing jobs because of it.

It looks like crude could push through $30.00 today. Presently down 2.2% at $30.69.
