Nzoner's Game Room>There's life outside of obsessing over the Chiefs
Bl00dyBizkitz 07:40 PM 02-12-2025
Something I noticed about myself and might be a decent reminder to someone who needs to hear it.

I noticed i was obsessing over the chance for a 3-peat so much it was affecting my overall well-being, and failing that quest definitely hurt. And with the rest of the NFL fans taking their victory lap over our demise, Kelce potentially retiring, and the offseason pundits surely expecting us to fail next year, it would be really easy to get too caught up in all the negativity and hate surrounding the Chiefs, caring too much about what everyone else thinks.

I think I'm gonna chill this offseason. Obviously I'll be checking if Kelce retires and watching the offseason moves, but otherwise I'll be more lax about it. People are gonna say some dumb shit about us this offseason for sure, and it's just not worth getting riled up over.

After all the success we have had since Mahomes, the loss was so much easier to absorb.

I had a bad feeling prior and I noticed during the GDT posts by all the CP members, no one acted crazy or angry. That let me know we all had some level of doubt.

The CP collective took it like good sports..

Yes, losing the super bowl is disappointing but everything after the first is gravy in my opinion. 1 more than I thought I would ever see.

Honestly, 3 SB's in a row...it wasnt as exciting. It was cool but nothing like the first one of Mahomes' career. That was wildly fun...

Chiefs could never return to the SB and I'd still feel like my fandom experience is complete...we got everything we always wanted...actually more.
My sentiments exactly. After 2012, if someone had told me the Chiefs are going to have 12 straight winning seasons, 9 straight AFC West titles, 7 straight AFCCG appearances, 5 Super Bowl appearances with winning 3 of them, then I would have said "I'll take it".

I hear you. I think the majority of the fan base overlooked the fact that our team was emotionally and mentally drained and had finally hit the wall for numerous good reasons. IMO they blew their last nut in the Buffalo game and that was all she wrote. And now they face a hungry Eagles team that is a more physically talented juggernaut, that our Chiefs just weren't up for to play because of their mental and physical exhaustion. And especially Pat, knowing our o-line has been duct taped all year long, knowing he will be running for his life, knowing how physical the Eagles were last time he played against them and now knowing they are even better. He himself just didn't have it and tried to overcompensate as much as he could only to play poorly, throwing several pics, missing guys that were wide open, etc.

I actually wouldn't mind missing the playoffs next year. Team needs rest and higher draft picks to restock on talent.

I refuse to watch another live Chiefs game until the first preseason game of 2025

No reason to believe they won’t be back. When football season ends I almost always feel like I’m gaining another day off from work. No more planning my Sundays around football for a while, more time to do food deliveries on the weekends and save for that next killer trip in the summer. More time to get back in shape, catch up on reading. The Chiefs are our magnificent obsession but it’s a good time to take a break from it until at least the draft. Put that time you’ve been absorbing football content into things you enjoy that maybe you’ve been neglecting.

I’m feeling the same way man. I’m not kidding when I say the Chiefs losing Sunday has caused me immense pain and for my depression to flare up. I have major depression and the highest of highs when everything is going well is awesome.

But man it truly is the lowest of lows when the tough L happens on the field or in life. I wish I never got involved into sports because i obviously become too emotionally invested in this stuff. 2025 has been an awful year for me. I’ve already lost a pet and my neighbor died unexpectedly last week. My Chiefs getting their ass kicked as they looked devastated on the sideline wasn’t something that was helping an already shitty new year

I’ve stayed off all social media and sports talk because I just can’t handle the negativity right now. And combine all that with maybe losing one of my favorite players ever?

Yeah it’s been a rough week to say the least. Make fun of me if you want but some of us can’t help how we feel. You’re not alone OP

Edit: also I’m kind of in a place right now where I don’t have a lot going on. It would be easier if there was something for me to dive headfirst into as a distraction

I love the how when people ask me who's my team...and I respond "The Chiefs"...they leave it at that. It used to be they'd talk shit but now? Crickets. I fuckin love it, especially here in SoCal surrounded by 49er, Raider and Charger fans.

Even with the Chiefs losing bad in the SB, trash talk was brief at work on Monday:

Them:"Damn, Chiefs got blown out!"...Me: *Shrug* "Can't win em all. I'm good with three straight SB appearances and 2 wins though.".....Them: "....."

Savor this time fellas and relax. The team is in highly capable hands at every level of the organization.

I dont agree with that assessment at all...

Chiefs had three weeks rest then two games then another two weeks off. If they were THAT compromised...it would have shown up against Houston. They had just played a top-tier DL in the Texans. Rams seemed OK playing that Eagles defensive front.

Chiefs primary starters played two games in a five week span...

Something else was off...it was like watching an entirely different team. Chiefs have top OL players...one guard isn't the same as the Tampa situation. It shouldn't wreck your entire game...it was like they were on drugs.

Reid's game plan was sketchy...I just leave it at that.

Do you guys think we could see another chance at a threepeat? For me that was the big deal. The 3 peat was immortality just like the Dolphins undefeated season.

And if we had won Sunday I legitimately wouldn’t have cared from here on out because of that. Yet again we got beat down by another SB Brady was at. Man is a damn curse

Go Chiefs.
I am just imagining what it will be like 3 years from now when you have the threepeat! (and 5 out of 6)

Honestly that's why I felt more apprehension for this game than any of the others. It wasn't the end of a season's journey, it was 3 years in the making and as such, we would have to climb the mountain for another 3 to get here again.

Totally understand that feeling. For the longest time, KC was the only consistent thing to look forward to in my life. It felt like my upcoming week would teeter on if the Chiefs won or lost on Sunday. I’d fly off the handle, break remote controls, etc. It was something I looked forward to…then became something I actually dreaded.

I’ve gotten better with time and age. I still fly off the handle during KC games but when they are over, I don’t let it impact my week or even that evening. Life’s too short.

And at the start of this SB…I told myself… they will either be inarguably the greatest dynasty of all time, or arguably the greatest dynasty of all time.

Try and enjoy the ride my friend.
