The biggest all time was the 99 DBacks. 35 game improvement but they were also an expansion team that signed a bunch of FAs.
89 Orioles went from 54 wins to 87. That's the second biggest and the record for most wins by a team who lost 100 the year before. It's a pretty short list of teams that went from 100 losses to a winning record.
Only one team ever has gone from 100 losses to playoffs, the 2017 Twins. Granted there are more playoff teams now but even under the last playoff system the Royals would be in right now. [Reply]
