I was a tad young but would tag along w/ my sister and her friends when she'd allow it.
I remember the Wild Woodys - the Venture - there was an awesome video store where we'd rent Cheech and Chong movies. Let's see - Tippins, Arthur Treachers - Rustlers BBQ, Red Lobster, Fuddruckers.
Yeah, what Sully said. Lee's Summit isn't Mission Hills or anything, but it doesn't have the layer of grime on it yet that Indep has.
I don't mind going back to visit, but a lot of Indep is run down and looking pretty rough. If you want to stay safe, stay around the Independence Center/I70/40 Highway corridor. Where I grew up was around the old airport, it's still OK too.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, venture north of 23rd street or west of noland road. Even if some of these neighborhoods, it's a bit sketchy. :-) [Reply]

My dad used to! He tells me stories all the time him and several of his buddies ran around there all the time. He had several cars. A cuda a 69 charger, a 69 big block swapped firebird. [Reply]
I grew up in the middle of nowhere..my family owns over 500 acres in the middle of North Missouri..when I say middle it's the middle..2 hours to St. Joe and 2 hours to Hannibal..2 hours to COMO..1 hour to Iowa St line..it took 20 minutes to drive to school through the country..went to a school with 300 people in a town of 600..graduated with 23 kids in my class..when we would cruise it was back roads or all sitting at the gas station in the middle of town..Every now and then when we felt like living on the edge..we would drive just outside of town to the sale barn and have drag races..Every other weekend we would go steal an old farmer's tractor and grain cart and pull it around town filled with drunk teenagers [Reply]

This is PURE CRAP.
And it's elitist bullshit.
Van Horn HS is on its way back. It's a school on the move, and I take offense at this portrayal. Just because we've got a lot of hard working middle class families doesn't mean we're garbage. SCREW YOU! [Reply]

Yeah...Burnet a lot of gas in my 73 Camaro chasing the dick teasers on Noland Rd. Can't remember anybody hooking up with any of the hot girls that cruised there. It was Bumper to Bumper a lot of Saturday nights there. I would drive from Liberty just to cruise. [Reply]

The wink emoticon at the end was supposed to signify my sarcasm. My bad.
I cruised it in my Dodge Charger Superbee- back in the day. Picked up more girls than I could count. Sometimes would take one home then go back and get another. We hung out at Minskys pizza mostly. [Reply]
