Stanley Kubrick cast James Earl Jones in his very first role on the silver screen, Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. It had been TV only for Jones in the early 1960s. He subsequently appeared in soap operas Guiding Light and As the World Turns (yes—those date back to the mid-60s), before a prolific run in dozens upon dozens of major motion pictures.
RIP to a legend. My favorite roles of his were Terrance Mann in Field of Dreams, Jim Greer in Hunt for Red October, and of course, as the voice of Vader.
I always thought about the coolest thing I'd ever hear would be Jones having a conversation with Morgan Freeman, about... hell, anything. They'd make playcalling a tax audit mesmerizing. [Reply]

A very young James Earl Jones plays one of the airmen on board the nuke-equipped bomber in Dr. Strangelove. I had no idea it was him the first time I watched it, just to find out after seeing his name in the credits and going back to re-watch some of those scenes.
It's a minor part but I recommend anyone that hasn't seen that movie to watch in JEJ's honor! Plus it's widely considered a top ten movie of all time so what are you even doing with your life if you haven't seen it? [Reply]
