That third foot is key and it didn't come down so no fumble.
The whole third foot rule is just as dumb as the rule that doesn't exist any more that said Megatron didn't catch the ball.
There is no part of that "catch" that is not a catch. There's no bobble. There's 2 feet down. He's tucking the ball into his body. He's turning up field. He gets hit and fumbles the ball. Thats a fucking catch and fumble. [Reply]

Not only did he not slip, he got a full crow hop into it. That's like a centerfielder trying to throw a runner out and the ball bouncing 6 times before it even gets to the cutoff man, let alone the base where the runner is headed. It was an absolute embarassment for Hurts, the Eagles, the Hurts family, and the entire city of Philadelphia. Their QB didn't just lose, he got exposed for having unbelievably weak arm strength.
I've had this theory for years. The best football players are baseball players. Hurts never pitched. Mahomes did.
Orlando Brown Jr. on the Chiefs' offensive line: “We just executed & did our job to the highest of levels. It was all so worth it, man. Zero sacks! Tell them to put it on a ****ing T-shirt!”

Well whether it is a dumb rule or not. It is relatively easy to officiate.
The studio ref thought the overturning was straight forward before the call was announced and I agreed with him.
The football move is the third step and it didn't happen.
But likewise, you pull the jersey back from the receiver and it doesn't matter if it is ticky tacky or not. That is asking for PI.
And I thought things were easier to ref before the Megatron rule change, but whatever.
As long as they announce the rules. The current rule is third step. [Reply]

What's to stop an "intelligent" player catching a ball 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage and seeing no possible way of getting positive yards from just standing there and waiting for the hit and "fumbling?"
He never took a 3rd step, so no matter how long it took for the defender to get there it's not a catch.
At some point common sense needs to take over. [Reply]
