"Just a QB away" means your team is dogshit.

You do know this, right?

The Pioli Chiefs were only ever "Just a QB away."

Those Washington Football Teamers who nearly knocked Brady out of the playoffs during the Super Bowl season? "Just a QB away."

Let's look at some other teams who are currently "just a QB away."

Oh, look, it's just about the whole damn league minus the teams that already have a franchise QB.

The 2020 Bucs were a QB away, they landed Tom Brady and won the Super Bowl.

The 2021 Rams were a QB away, they landed Matt Stafford and won the Super Bowl.

The Bengals earned the #1 and #5 overall picks without Joe Burrow, the one year with Burrow they go to the Super Bowl.

The 2022 Broncos were a QB away, they landed Russell Wilson and won the Super B…

The 2021 Rams were good enough to compete with Jared Goff at QB. They were going from divisional round team to Super Bowl. They weren’t going from worst in the division and constant mediocrity to a Super Bowl. Huge difference in rosters, and most importantly, coaching staff.

The 2020 Bucs had a better roster than Denver and added a significantly better QB than Wilson. In a significantly easier division and with an easier road to winning. Also with a huge difference in coaching staff compared to Denver. They were a Brady away from winning, not a Wilson.

The Bengals were a fluky team that thrived off of an insanely injured and poor division and won in the playoffs because they got Derek Carr in round 1 and merely existed in the next 2 rounds while the teams they played (KC included) handed them a win on a silver platter. I guess Denver could go with the fluky route?

The Bengals are not taken seriously from what little I've seen

The Broncos don’t have the talent that the Bucs and Rams had. The Broncos didn’t have a single pro bowler last year until alternates were needed.

You aren’t those teams

Aside from adding a QB who is considered the GOAT, TB also added three skill players who combined to score every single TD in the SB. And drafted a great player in the first round (who did Denver pick in the first round again?).

The Rams won a road playoff game the year before (vs....checks notes...Russell Wilson!).

Both teams had experienced, proven coaches.

But, hey, aside from those details.....great point.

What did the Broncos do without the QB?

Didn’t even fucking sniff shit.

If they were so good, they should have been able to ride that Alex Smith clone Teddy Bridgewater to a playoff berth. The Chiefs did exactly that for years. Even won the division once or twice. And with a worse defense than the Broncos have.

Andy Reid would have done far more with what the Broncos have had the last several years.

No matter what they add to their roster (which isn't nearly as good as they think it is), they'll never measure up at QB or head coach. By far the two most important elements.

I know in your homer Donko mind with your bright orange glasses always on, you'd like to think the Donks roster is comparable to the 2020 Bucs or the 2021 Rams and just as deep.

FYI, it's not.

The 2021 Rams is not even an argument I'm going to entertain because it's just epically stupid. Now if you want to entertain the 2020 Bucs comparison, because their 5 year run (record wise) prior to Brady arriving is actually pretty similar to the Donkos records over this last 5 years, fine.

But here's where it falls apart:

In 2019, the Tampa Bay Bucs had the NFL's #1 ranked run defense (15th overall) and the NFL's #1 ranked passing offense (4th overall). They already had a solid defense in place (which I would agree that the Donkos do as well), but they also had a strong offense with elite playmakers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Which Denver has neither of. So how the hell did the 2019 Bucs finish under .500? You can blame that simply on turnovers, specifically, from their QB who led the NFL with 30 INT's. So Tampa needed a QB and they got one.

Now, you'd like us all here to believe that Denver is just a QB away. Interestingly enough, the Donkos ranked near the bottom of the NFL in turnovers last year (as in good, not turning it over). They finished 26th in turnovers. That is good. Your QB's threw only 9 INT's on the season.

But, according to you, Russell Wilson is all you needed to be elite. Oddly enough, his 6 INT's last year and INT% of 1.5, is not far off from Teddy's 7 INT's and INT% of 1.6 or even Drew Lock's (albeit limited) INT% of 1.8. How about TD's? DangeRuss threw for 25 last year in 400 passing attempts (with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett as his #1 & #2, keep in mind). A TD% of 6.3. Not great, but not terrible. Teddy (since you claimed QB is what was holding you back) threw for 18 TD's in 416 attempts for TD% of 4.2. So not as good as R.W.'s so an upgrade there, albeit not a large one. Let's look at yards: 3,052 yards for Teddy in 416 attempts. How bout Russ? 3,113 yards in 400 attempts. So not a huge difference.

So what does all this data tell us? Maybe, and just maybe, Russell Wilson is not as good as he once was. He put up those numbers with DK Metcalf and Tyler Locket as his #1 & #2. And to take it back to the 2019 Bucs, who had Evans and Godwin at #1 & #2. Who on the Donks roster is remotely comparable to either pair? You don't have to answer, we already know.

Tom Brady came into a better situation, with better offensive skill players, and at his age of 40+ was just a flat out better QB than DangeRuss is at 33.

All that adds up to the Donks NOT being just a QB away . . . . . . at least not THIS quarterback.

You will soon find that out once the 2022 season gets here.

You were warned . . . . . . . .

Comparing the '22 Broncos to Tampa's superteam is.....funny.

Let's see. Do I want Evans, Godwin, Antonio Brown and Gronk, or......:-)

TomBarnt- that’s a great response. Very well thought out and the comparisons are spot on. But unfortunately it will fall on Knowshit’s def/homer ears. To him, every player is a first ballot HOFer, and every new coach they bring in is the second coming of Hoodie. The guy is hopeless, and no amount of explaining how he’s sooooo wrong will ever make it through his solid, thick skull.

We already had the second coming of Hoodie (McDaniels), and I don't want that again.
