Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy! [Reply]
• 4 Super Bowl appearances • 3 Super Bowl wins • 7 STRAIGHT AFC Championship Games •7-0 in the Divisional round of the Playoffs •7 STRAIGHT AFC WEST Championships • 6 pro bowls • 3 all-pro seasons • 2 MVP’s • 1 AP offensive…
CJ Stroud is 23. Jayden Daniels is 24. Jalen Hurts is 26. Justin Herbert is 26. Josh Allen is 28. Lamar Jackson is 28. Joe Burrow is 28. Patrick Mahomes is 29.
All under 30. All already elite. The NFL is loaded with elite young QBs.
Mahomes ties Montana with a win against Houston, which was Montana's last playoff win. He can pass Montana with a win against Buffalo, which was Montana's next game after his last playoff win. [Reply]
This is not talking shit. I realize our run and our records I also realize there are a lot of ways to win and have success and that airing it out is not the only way.
However...
Do we think Patrick sustained some kind of nagging injury or something that has impacted his ability to throw the deep ball? It has been a few years now...there have been different reasons thrown around...defenses changing to focus on taking away deep threats and us not having great WRs at times.
It just really feels like he is not connecting on those deep balls like he used to at all. In the later half of this season we have had guys who get separation to make it work.
Is there something at play here or am I overthinking it. Obviously only winning matters but it feels insane that all these QBs zip the ball down the field and it sometimes feels like our HOF QB can't. [Reply]

Probably more of a function of not having great tackles since the days of Fisher and Schwartz eroding his trust and speeding him up at times. [Reply]
I believe the 2-high shell in 2021 really transformed how we built our offense. Teams knew Mahomes would look down field all day long if he had time, so they took it away entirely. And it worked, Mahomes would force the ball deep and it just wasn't there.
In 2022, we reinvented everything to attack the intermediate with a sprinkling of the deep ball every now and then. Mahomes slaughtered defenses and won MVP and the SB that year.
As for missing on deep balls in recent years, while Mahomes has an other-wordly arm, I don't think he throws an accurate, pretty deep ball. He can sometimes, but it's not repeatable. Tyreek really helped. What killed people pre-2021 was defenses weren't prepared for how fearlessly and often Mahomes would attack downfield. Defenses decided they'd rather die the slow death than face the Patomic Bomb, so slow death it's been. [Reply]
