Broncos realistically have a 2 year window which is funny bc they don’t have a 1st rd pick either year.
This time next year Russ will be paid and he will demand a top contract with far more gauranteed money than Patrick (thanks Watson!) and an average cap hit of $51 million. Maybe more if Herbert gets paid first. And they can’t do what they did for Mahomes bc Mahomes works so well due to it being a 10 year contract with stipulations to lower his cap hit almost every year.
So really the Broncos are fooling themselves and will have to find Tyreek Hill’s or Travis Kelce’s or Trey Smith’s like the Chiefs have done in later rounds [Reply]
The Broncos are going to be quite the third place team with Russ Ryan though. I think they win a game against the Chiefs here in the next 4 or 5 seasons. [Reply]

Yeah, I'm probably getting a little too caught up in the Matt Wilson hype; but I can see a situation where we've got the division locked up and they give Henne or whoever their best shot and squeak one out. [Reply]

Mahomes has almost set the ceiling at QB. Dak, Josh Allen, and Matt Stafford have all signed contracts after the Mahomes deal and every one of the came in under Mahomes' AAV.
Rodgers and Watson had unique circumstances to their negotiations. Watson had three teams competing for him and only managed to get $1M per year than Mahomes.
Who knows what Wilson's contract demands will be. If it's more than Mahomes' deal it will be a relatively negligible amount. Let's Reach already borrowed from Mahomes' deal in a failed attempt to win another trophy. General Paton can do that in the future too, if he so chooses. [Reply]
Veach’s deal for Mahomes is the best contract in all of sports. He’s getting the best QB for less than $36 million this year (steal) and his $46 million cap hit next year can be lowered due to the nature of his deal.
All Veach has to do is get that bonus moved and it gives us $31.5 million in cap space :-)
Broncos aren’t competing with that. They aren’t competing with Andy Reid and they don’t have draft picks against a very good drafting Chiefs team.

I'm sure a name brand QB will increase the price by a few hundred million....
From that vantage, the fleece-job trade makes more pragmatic business sense. Whats a handful of picks matter when you can gain a few hundred million and ownership can walk away.
In the grand scheme of things, the QB isn't going to drive a couple hundred million in the selling price. But, run with it... [Reply]

Calling it... Broncos defeat the Chiefs in Denver this season. [Reply]

It’s always funny to watch you post this (and you have many times). Like Chiefs fans should be mad about our GM going all out to get another Lombardi? Is that not what any fanbases team would want?
And you say it like the Chiefs lost double digit games, bombed out and completely missed the playoffs. They went back to the Super Bowl the very next year after winning and then we’re on the doorstep of the SB again, if not for a very uncharacteristic half of football. Shit happens.
The Chiefs have LITERALLY been in or at the doorstep of the SB all 4 years since Mahomes became the starter. Setting Denver’s suckage aside, find me one other team that has done that. Find one other team in the NFL that has been MORE successful than the Chiefs the last 4 years? You can’t.
Your shit stained franchise has been absent from the playoffs every year since your bought and paid for (and HGH’d up) QB was there. And I said ‘bought and paid for’ because history has taught us that Denver can’t draft a QB to save its life. One re-tread wash out after another after another after another . . . . . .
And you come here (to a Chiefs BB) and talk shit on the Chiefs and their GM (the most successful franchise in the NFL the last 4 years) while propping up some no name GM who hasn’t accomplished anything noteworthy in his career other than giving Kirk Cousins one of the shittiest contracts of all time for a QB.
Luckily, he will probably outdo himself of the Cousins contract when he re-sets the market paying Wilson’s new contract in another year or so (while having no high draft capital to bring in impact players on offense or defense).
So like others have said, it really is a 2 year window or bust for the Donkos with Wilson. You better hope to catch lightning in a bottle or some weird shit because your last place Denver Broncos, while getting better, just watched the other two teams in the division that finished in front of them also get better.
Oh, and you have that team in Kansas City that has won the division 6 years in a row and has beaten your dicks into the ground 13 straight times.
So, yeah, good luck these next couple years with ‘The Paton Plan’ [Reply]

I'd be mad if my GM threw away premium picks on Frank Clark and Orlando Brown (after whiffing on Trent Williams). They're going to be paid like elite caliber players and they are far from it.

Irrelevant. You were beating up on a team without a QB. The Chiefs have had one of the easiest divisions in the entire league since 2018. The Chiefs will be lucky to win the division more than once over the next 4 years. [Reply]

We’ll see. Chiefs have a huge coaching advantage as well as an amazing QB contract that is flexible to provide money when we need it.
Chargers always choke with very talented teams, the Raiders have Carr and are the Raiders and the Broncos don’t have a 1st rd draft pick until 2024. They don’t pick until the 3rd rd in 2023 draft.
We’ll see how good Paton is now that he doesn’t have a top 10 pick and has to deal with paying a QB elite money. [Reply]
