Nzoner's Game Room>***Official 2024-2025 NBA Thread***
KC_Connection 01:25 PM 10-22-2024
Season starts tonight with Knicks and Celtics followed by Lakers and TWolves.

Will history be made early in the 2nd game?

That's a pretty damn big name. Not to the casuals, but basketball fans know who Terry Rozier is. Guy's probably made $100 million in his career.

Yuck.
He clearly doesn't need the money (unless, I suppose, he gambled it all away), so I'm guessing he was helping out some friends if what it seemed happened actually happened.

It is probably way harder to manipulate because it’s a short season and every snap matters for winning and also for earning a paycheck. And they don’t have the same bullshit load management that pop introduced. It’s a huge problem in the nba. Injury designations are a complete joke at this point. We saw Ben Simmons check out of a game minutes after the game started and other nba players mysteriously checking out for sickness a few minutes later. Not that the nba should cater to the gambling community but if they’re gonna full throatedly promote gambling, that’s super super shady.

I would assume anyone caught up in this kind of shit is too dumb to know better and too clueless about money to realize it just ain’t worth it

I like whenever there's some sort of accusation you pivot to another league. Last time it was CFB now it's the NFL.

Your shitty league is dying. For whatever reason you choose to look away. You aren't particularly bright

How Lakers fans allow this is asinine.
He somehow got an invite to the rising starts game and had to decline.

It's a rhetorical question. It's obvious that the NFL would be far more prone to fixing than the NBA.

You don't have a ****ing clue what you're talking about. The league just signed absolutely massive TV deals with ESPN/Disney, NBC, Amazon, and Turner. Do you think they managed to do that by just bluffing the networks?

Unlike the NBA, the NFL doesn't have guaranteed long-term contracts for the players to the same extent and the refs make basically nothing. There are also far bigger wagers being made on NFL game outcomes/player stats than anything going on with the NBA.

It's really not much of a leap at all.

Look. I like the nba and certainly don’t agree that it’s a bad product. But can’t agree with you that there aren’t serious issues with the product.

I also don’t agree that it is harder to rig. I’ve never looked into it so I’m willing to hear if I’m wrong. It just seems to me there are so many more meaningless games and one player can make such a huge impact… nba seems way easier to rig. I mean coaches are conceding games left and right before the game even starts

I think at the end of the day nfl teams are motivated to win. Every single snap matters and players will get sussed out easier or nfl teams have zero tolerance for mistakes (even unintentional ones). I just don’t see it.

I've been the one banging the drum about their being too many threes in the NBA long before anybody here, but that doesn't mean the NBA is a "dying" league. It's flourishing by any metric you look at, which is part of the reason why Silver has been reluctant to change anything about it to this point.

All that rigging an NFL game would require is getting one starting QB (hard to do, but still a possibility depending on the player's contract status) or one or two refs (much easier to do) in a particular game. If it's happened in high level professional soccer (and it has often), I'm absolutely sure it's happened before in the NFL where similarly large amounts of money are bet on a weekly basis.

Yeah on the first point I understand that you’re just reacting to an overreaction. I think we’re on the same page on this topic.

To your second point I guess the bigger problem is that the lines between throwing games and giving up are so blurred. Load management is insanely out of control to the point where coaches are throwing games in full public view. Again I haven’t actually looked into this so I’m not saying I’m right. But it feels too easy to shave points when people expect you to. When the coach decides they’re gonna pull every starter except lillard easy excuse to suck and blame it on the coach’s decision. When you’re down by 20 and 1 assist away from your prop line, easy to just not even try or come up with some bullshit injury.

But man if you’re Deshaun Watson and you absolutely suck and lose 1 game out of a 16 game season… the disgust of the fans gives an incentive to not throw games
