I’m really happy with the way the trade deadline is going in the NFL this year. It seems to be a huge change from the boring years past.

I hope this is how it is from this point on bc it’s actually fun seeing these moves happen

The Chiefs are the reason why man.

They are trying to become the greatest team ever, and a lot of their counterparts are under immense pressure to stop it.

LOTS of guys on the last year of their contracts. Maybe the thing to do is go look at players that contracts run out in 2026 to get a jump start on what next years trade deadline class could look like. OH and all these injuries could be the main factor as well.

That would be intriguing as hell. But I gotta figure he'd be a little pricy.

His 5th year option next season is reasonable; about $14 million. That's a little high for a #2 CB but not out of bounds (and really, that's what he is -- he's not a guy that should be getting a CB1 contract but he ultimately would in FA).

But would a 3 really get that done? With a year of team control left and a pretty palatable base salary this season, it seems like the Browns could get a relatively decent return for him.

Definitely. And honestly I can’t blame Buffalo and Baltimore. They’re the 2nd and 3rd best teams INT he AFC. They’re going for it. If I were them I would do anything I could to dethrone us.

I love Veach’s moves though. It’s gonna be hard next year bc I want to keep both Hopkins and Uche.

I think the big reason might just be that there's no cavalry coming and really no plan B.

Williams is it. I mean you're looking at Roland-Wilson behind him and of course Johnson if he gets healthy.

But none of those guys have really shown much.

Williams remains a strange case. He looked really good down the stretch last season and seems to have just lost it a bit. I don't know if he's over-exposed or what. But it seems like he's capable of being better than this. When you see Watson get so much better on the same timeline with tools that are extremely similar ot Williams, you just wonder why.

Was it that Watson was on a bit of a hot streak and may have come back a bit? Or does Williams not have something between the ears? I just don't get it.

But this isn't a situation like WR where I think they really expect that Brown is going to return in the last week or two of the season. Or even at OT where they think they can scheme around it a bit.

This would seem to be the place they MOST need a bit of a talent infusion.

Well, maybe they can do that at the expense of a Trey Smith or Nick Bolton.

Definitely gonna win some and lose some in that FA market. But it's the best Chiefs roster of my lifetime, you aren't gonna keep that thing together forever.

I remember in 2022 thinking, man, if we don't win a Super Bowl after back-to-back classes like we had in 2021 and 2022... yikes.

And we may end up with not just one, but at least two and maybe three.

Hopkins will come back if he performs.

Uche took less money last season to stay in NE and look how it worked out for him. If he provides a shot in the arm and can get the kind of deals he passed on last season (nothing amazing, but rumored at stuff like 2/$15 million) he's gotta take that.

But I could really see Hopkins sticking around if this experiment works. He has GOT to be tired of chasing the bag at this point and playing for shit teams.

Veach seems to disagree. Looks to me like he thinks improving the pass rush will help the corners we already have on the roster.

The Chiefs are gonna have to bring him back if Kelce retires.

With Rashee not coming back until next October maybe, yeah, you need someone to fill the go-to guy role underneath.

Really think Hollywood probably runs it back as well. Feel horrible for the guy he pretty much lost a prime year. Is Juju gonna have any takers much over vet minimum?
Receiving core of Rice, Hopkins, Hollywood, Worthy, Juju. Yeah I'd like our chances.

Agreed. A LT or another WR would be a "bonus" right now. A cornerback is a real need. There were guys on the field Sunday that just didn't belong out there.

Here’s my thinking:

The Chiefs cap is gonna open up in 2026. Kelce will be off the books by then. I really do think Veach is gonna extend Thuney to a deal similar to Chris Jones that is a 3 year deal masked as a 5 year deal that frees money and is backloaded with a clean cut for when he hangs it up after 2026 or 2027. Don’t think Veach is letting both G’s walk in one offseason.
We aren’t paying shit to our WR room, even if Hopkins stays on a nice fair deal (why wouldn’t he if things go well?), the OL money is going to Jawaan and Creed for the foreseeable future.

I think they can get backloaded deals for Bolton (yes I’m 100% confident he’s staying) and McDuffie next Spring to have the big cap hits hit the books in 2027 and beyond when Thuney, Kelce and Chris are all gone.

I think they could absolutely float Omenihu’s deal to Uche if he has success here. Maybe that works? Maybe not. But it’s worth a try.

Uche is only 26 though. I really wouldn’t mind doing what we can to keep him bc I think he’s a proven type we haven’t had in the Spags era and is worth paying should he show out under us (I think he absolutely will).

That would also free up some shit for us. Watson would be in his last year next year and will likely be priced out (God I love that kid) as well as Trey.

Assuming you keep Bolton, Hopkins and Uche, you’ve got an ideal fit at RG with Wanya, Kingsley heat his shot at LT and you can use your draft picks on a Corner and BPA early and a RB from this awesome class and more OL with your 3rd rd picks.

We are set up so nicely

Matt Derrick reporting the Chiefs have only around $300k in cap space and if that's true, definitely no trade coming too soon...

Yup and I’m bringing back Juju on a minimal deal like this year. I get the guy has injury problems but having him as WR5 over a guy like Skyy is invaluable. He was a game changer vs the Saints.

Patrick trusts him too. Didn’t mean you can’t keep drafting WR’s every year but Juju is great cheap insurance in case injuries like this year occur again.
