Dante84 07:19 PM 04-27-2017
IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Getting Juju and Pacheco back will help Mahomes a ton. You can tell Kareem is getting tired from usage and the offense doesn’t have enough receiving weapons to create explosive plays.

Getting Hollywood back will be enormous for the offense, and I think he’s coming back by mid December. He’s the veteran version of what Worthy will be.

Worthy will be much better next year but right now he’s still getting open every game. Matching him on CB3’s and CB4’s is a huge mismatch.

He torched that white Iowa Denver corner that they’ve been blowing for months. Him and Hardman will have opportunities there

In 2022 we were getting the full focus of Mahomes every single week. That was as pissed off as he had been, hell bent on proving he could excel without Tyreek.

Then last year it was all about the back-to-back.

Now this year it's the threepeat.

And I just can't bring myself to believe that's the main reason. Those tackles struggled too their fair share.

You can split the blame up however you want, but the eye test says Mahomes' just isn't playing up to his standard. Like this should be the first year of his career he doesn't earn a Pro Bowl bid, and I'll almost be upset if he does, because it just is not deserved.

That said, just like last year, I expect his best when we need it most. And maybe that's part of the issue. This team is in a constant state of wanting to get on with the postseason already.

EDIT: Just saw your 9:35am post.... yep.
I just remember the Lions game thread last year.

I have season tickets so I'm at every game. I get a better view of this stuff than most. And as the game thread is just shouting at everyone NOT Mahomes, I'm sitting there in the first 3 quarters trying to tell folks "Uh...guys, he's just not seeing dudes. They're all over the place out there..."

And predictably, I got barbecued for it.

Now in the 4th, he found his groove and the rest of his team collapsed around him. But this goes back to week 1 of the 2023 season. He wasn't seeing guys. He was playing tight.

And he's done that in less impactful spots pretty much every game since. It's like he's holding back or playing tight. He has that early game knob turned WAY over to "Complementary football".

I think the 'damn the torpedoes' is still in there but I do worry a bit that it's clearly not his default setting. He used to be The Hulk -- his secret was that he was ALWAYS angry. Now it's the inverse. He doesn't come into the game with the knob turned up to 11 - but the knob does still go that high. It just has to be forced up there through game script.

And as we saw Sunday, that leaves your margin for error pretty slim. If he plays that first half more free, perhaps missing Worthy or Kelce doesn't make the game come down to Chenal.

I dunno. It's strange. But it's real, IMO.

I mean and we almost saw it bite us against Baltimore and SF with that LONG drive drought without a TD. Good thing Lamar sucks in the playoffs because he wears himself out chasing regular season stats. Especially the bullshit of staying in blowouts racking up cheap MVP numbers. But that's another conversation.
You can stop pointing it out multiple times in every fucking thread.... plenty of people agree while some people are just discussing possible reasons behind it.

You're just spamming threads for attention at this point... well, worse than usual.

I am curious why KC is not utilizing Worthy like Baltimore is with Flowers. Maybe less chuck it deep until he and Mahomes develop better chemistry.

Worthy has been awesome to be honest. He's open every week multiple times a game for should be TDs. It's very frustrating that it isn't happening for him. Like I keep saying....He has 10 TDs if just the wide open by 3 yard throws are on target.

Because the QB can't get him the football.

Pat is paid way to much money to play this way.

Only going to get harder the next 2 years when his cap number almost doubles to $66and $68 million. I’m sure they’ll restructure again but eventually you have to pay the piper. It’s really hard to keep winning when your QB is making that much money and not really playing like a top 10 QB most of the time.

Yesterday was probably an outlier. He didn’t trust his OL and got rushed.

Per @NextGenStats, the Broncos pressured QB Patrick Mahomes on 20 of 49 dropbacks (40.8%), the highest pressure rate he has faced since Week 8 of 2023 against... the Broncos. From a clean pocket, Mahomes was 23 of 28 for 174 yards and a touchdown.

This tells the story. No QB is gonna play well when getting nerfed all day. We saw this with Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Mahomes and every QB.

OL wasn’t just bad. They ****ing sucked. Broncos cratered our run game with light boxes, blew up our screen game and got beat badly on passing downs.

It wasn’t just Kingsley. Trey got his ass whooped multiple times, so did Creed and so did Thuney.

Taylor was shockingly the only OL that seemed to play okay despite Mahomes running into a sack from his guy on that one play.

Last year it was the WR's, this year it's the OL.

I dunno. Seems weird.

Last week in particular you can say it was a bad game by the OL. In general, they've been okay. I think we should be having a more honest discussion about Wanya vs Donovan Smith and OBJ before laying the blame at LT, cause those two guys aren't much better (if at all) in comparison. Although Wanya being hurt really should warrant us to call Donovan. Like, immediately.

Mahomes is just struggling. And as a fanbase and an organization, we've put all our faith in him. All you can do now is wait and hope he makes it out the other side.

I think it’s okay with Wanya tbh. Not perfect but at least playable.

Sunday was just a bad day for the entire team. Our entire IOL got worked. Can’t remember the last time that happened with this group.

It's almost like all teams aren't perfect because they have limited resources and opportunities to address all their issues. Weird indeed.

I'll remind people too, our OL has always been excellent in home playoff games under Mahomes. Cold weather slows individual rushers and they mix up the snap counts a lot better because they can at home.
