IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Way too much trashing of Mahomes currently in this thread for my liking. Disrespectful and disgraceful to the greatest of all time.

He will be ready when it matters and that time isn't regular season games in mid-September.

He has honestly been awful...sans the playoffs for a while now. Wtf is going on
He doesn’t get a pass either for this one.

At heart he's a baseball midfielder , because rarely they have time to set their feet perfectly while diving to catch or throwing the baseball . Mahomes has always said that his footwork will be conscious problem because of his muscle memory being trained to be MLB player.

I actually think it might just be fundamentals and he's now figured out that is what it is. The game is easy for him. He may think he's playing at a 100% level in game but in the back of his mind he's dicking around, playing with his food if you will. It's like when I play poker and there are no other pros at the table. I just start dicking around. Opening more speculative hands, overbluffing, over valuebetting etc and generally just doing stuff I don't normally do just to see if I can do it.

If his "fundamentals" are bad right now and he's still completing 70 percent of his passes I can't wait to see a good game. :-)

But, I was watching league highlights, and what I really noticed about Mahomes compared to the QBs who are currently playing great, is Mahomes seems to be trying to place the ball in spots, almost like Tua, aiming instead of throwing.

It really looks like he just doesn't have confidence in the line, and he is reluctant to really step into his throws while in the pocket. Not always, of course, but a lot of the time.

Mahomes working on, and fixing his footwork and going back to fundamentals doesn't really change the situation on the offensive line. I am not sure how healthy Thuney is, but his play seems to be impacted by the LT struggling.

I don't doubt that we will win a lot of games, and make the playoffs, but that's not the goal this year. Hopefully Morris will really step up and claim the LT spot with his play.
He was at his most elite throwing the football during the playoff run with a hurt ankle. Then, he was forced to stay within the pocket and his throws were lethal.
Mahomes unnecessarily drifts far back from the pocket, even when the protection is there. It puzzles me how Andy still allows him to do that. He needs to develop patience. This has been his main weakness throughout his career. Move away from the pocket only when you absolutely have to.

Just sloppy. Testament to his greatness that we can still get 22 points on a night like this.

Late-game example of Mahomes' self-criticism. 2nd down on the first of two 3 & Outs

Once he sees ATL sit back in zone, he should go to flat immediately. Instead, he hitches a few times, loses footwork, and checks down late & behind -- dooming Perine from making the sticks pic.twitter.com/tF4Uc5sM3E

Don't know if he ruined him, but he sure has neutered him. For whatever reason, he's not the same player he was since Nagy returned.

Nah he just doesn’t have prime Tyreek or Kelce anymore.

You know, I thought that also. I went back and watched the Atl game, and Kelce was open a LOT. #15 did not look his way. Odd. To be fair, in some instances, the protection broke down. But more times than not it didn't.
What you're saying probably has something to do with it, but I also think it's a scheme. Have you noticed how much they're running lately? And then when they do pass, it's all around the line of scrimmage most of the time.

That doesn't explain Pat missing open guys. Guys were open enough to put up 40 if he hits them like 18
