It's like if people went around saying Bill Russell was the GOAT because he had the good fortune of being the best player on the 1960s Celtics.
No, it's like saying Michael Jordan is the GOAT instead of Lebron James. Because he has the stats, the peak AND the team success to back it.

But I'm sure you're right and everyone else is wrong. Tom Brady - meh. Totally checks out.

Highest QBR in a Super Bowl-winning postseason since 2006

1. 2019 Patrick Mahomes - 89.1
2. 2009 Drew Brees - 87.9
3. 2023 Patrick Mahomes - 86.6
4. 2010 Aaron Rodgers - 85.2
5. 2022 Patrick Mahomes - 84.0
6. 2017 Nick Foles - 83.5
7. 2012 Joe Flacco - 83.6

3 of the top 5, eh?

Brady unsurprisingly doesn't even show up on this list and the reason why is because his level dropped off routinely in the playoffs. Most overrated athlete ever.

MJ had the dominant peak that Brady never had (he was the best player in the league for a decade), so at least you can actually make the GOAT argument with him. Brady just had the longevity and nothing else.

About Tom Brady? Yeah absolutely. An entire mythology built around elite Belichick defenses.

Considering his reputation, it's pretty incredible how many shit playoff games Tom Brady had, and it's even more incredible how many of them he won. pic.twitter.com/mk9JIGlcBg

Then why has BB sucked so bad wout him? Especially on offense? Brady had great defenses but keep in mind BB is no Reid when it comes to offense.

Brady knew how to win w the cards he was dealt. If he has Reid as a HC he probably puts up a lot better numbers during his career

Because he had Mac Jones as a quarterback who is complete garbage?

Give him a Brock Purdy manager type and Belichick is still challenging for divisions easily with that defense.

Yeah but he wouldn't win 6 SBs. Plus, Brady was frequently voted the best player by his peers and former/current HCs. If he was that overrated, that would not happen. I think they know more than you or me.

Mahomes is on track to surpass Brady but he's got more work to do.

:-) Belicheck is 84-103 without Brady and 1-2 in the playoffs. That's 10 years of history. Brady is 32-18 without Belicheck and 5-2 in the playoffs with a Championship. Belicheck absolutely needed Brady far more than Brady needed Belicheck.

Don't give a damn who voted for what (Lamar Jackson has literally won 2 MVPs now despite not being able to throw a football), nor do I care how many titles Belichick's defenses carried Tom Brady to.

Obviously. To be the GOAT, you need longevity to go with peak and Mahomes has only played six years. Peak is still something that Brady never really had though.

Probably true, though I'm not sure where you decided I was making that argument here.

I actually liked Romo's call after the GW touchdown talking about Mahomes. "Michael Jordan wins again."

Although I would point out that Brady smartly and specifically chose a team that was absolutely stacked with offensive talent and had the best defense in the league to end his career with. I'm thinking that might have had a little something to do with his post-Belichick success.

Guys like Rodgers or Brees occasionally having better years than Brady didn't make them better QBs. He was absolutely the best at his position for a decade and deserves all the credit he gets for that.

I disagree. I think a lot of people at the time still debated whether Manning, Brady or Rodgers was the best.

Manning fell off in 2015 and Rodgers didn’t start until 2010 so it’s not apples to apples but Brady didn’t even become the *mostly unquestioned* GOAT until that Falcons Super Bowl.

Then he just kept winning even after that.

That has always been the crux of the Mahomes vs Brady issue. Mahomes has already matched Brady’s peak. Issue is, Brady was elite until he was 44.

Mahomes isn’t likely to be elite into his mid-40s so he will need to make up ground in his 30s (where Brady was still great but didn’t win a Super Bowl from the age of like 28-38 or something crazy like that).
