“Every coach is going to say they got the best kids, but we really do,” Self said. “Guys get along. But in today’s time, when kids are only here for a year, how can they be as invested as the kids you’ve coached over the last 20 years? It’s not fair to them sometimes. No question, it is different. It’s something that I personally have struggled with.”
Bill Self stuck up for his player after he got attacked on social media. But 24 hours later Self told me "I shouldn't have done it." The problem with putting these people on blast is it gives them more oxygen. My story for Hoops HQ @hhqsportshttps://t.co/cvcgjgMYwR

Okay fine. What’s with your senior leaders in KJ and Dajuan who have been here for 4 and 5 years?
Has he not had short term guys in the past? Arthur, Xavier, McLemore, Wiggins, Embiid, Oubre, Josh Jackson, Devon Dotson, Gradey Dick…they were all two years or less in the program. They figured it out?
Transfers. We’ve had plenty that came around to be good players. Withey, Malik Newman, Remy, McCullar (until the end), etc. They figured it out?

I’m not getting his point here.
Imo it's an excuse he's using for being unable to motivate these players to play hard regularly and/or being unable to recruit the kind of player this year who can be motivated to play hard regularly. As you cite, he's done it before. [Reply]

They'll either fall down big early and just give up completely or keep it close the entire time and lose at the end. Both of those have happened this year regularly.
Hard to know which one until we see the first five minutes. [Reply]

UH doesnt usualy blow people out. They just win, usually comfortably. Kansas could present problems if they play inside out. Gonna be a good game. UH respects KU and knows they'll have to play well to win.
(I just got to the game. The atmosphere is fantastic!) [Reply]
