Sources: #Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins is being traded to the #Chiefs in exchange for a 5th rounder that can get to a fourth rounder. Deal is being finalized.

Really?

I remember most thinking it was a really strong draft, definitely at the top and deeper at areas we needed help in.

I haven't formed any opinions yet on this year's class, but I don't recall anyone saying last year's class was bad. For the most part I remember folks saying this may be the last truly loaded class we see for a while as it was the end of the COVID classes and maybe the last class before the NIL money makes staying put cost-effective.

(By the way, Emeka Egbuka looks pretty much exactly the same as he looked last year. Still looks like a damn nice option for us)

Well that would make sense considering the issue with last year's class was the depth after the top 100 or so.

Since the Chiefs obviously aren't picking early, people calling this a shit draft because the QBs suck has literally nothing to do with us.

The narrative last year that was because of COVID the draft really fell off after the top 100 or so.

We shouldn't be thinking about rentals - we should be thinking about someone under control or someone we can extend.

And to Mecca's point, the draft class sucks next year and we're picking at the end of each round. I'll gladly use some capital to help us now and in future years.
Diontae Johnson is a FA next Spring. Just let it play out at this point and go get him. Kelce’s time is running out and we are paying Jack shit to any WR.

Go get him in the Spring

He's absolutely not signing a contract this close to FA.
Definitely a rental. He will seek and get a major long term deal from someone next year. It wont be us. Thats not the Veach way.

This is the perfect low risk/high reward trade. KC helps their chances this year without giving up a ton of future picks. Great move by Veach.

Well, I guess this explains why they had no interest in MVS!

Another bit of good news is, this buys us another week to evaluate further. I feel like we were really up against the gun this week with Juju out.

If a week goes by and it's clear Juju isn't progressing quickly, and more teams get comfortable with selling and lower their asking prices, and another week of remaining '24 comp falls off the books, perhaps we dip back in and grab a Demarcus Robinson or someone else.

Not sure why you thought i was referring to you...if I was calling you pissy I would have answered you directly and quoted you.

I may not always agree with your takes but I respect the fact that you stick to your guns.

Can definitely see that.

Cause then you aren't dealing with the headache of trying to get the deal done right now mid-season and all that might come with that.

It'd be tremendous to get to the draft and have Johnson, Hollywood, Rice, Worthy and JuJu all rostered.

I thought he was a one year deal?

Luther Burden, Travis Hunter, and that guy that's like 7' from Arizona might not be MHJ, but they're great fucking prospects in their own right.

I disagree and I think it's mostly about the QB position, because that's all people care about when they're judging the top of a class.

Oh sure. Maybe.

But who grades a draft based on its strength after the top 100?

I mean I just look specifically at WR, for instance. WR 10 last year was, depending on the source, Pearsall, Coleman, Worthy, maybe Mitchell or McConkey.

The board for most folks went 10-12 deep with guys considered a possible 1st round WR.

This year WR10 may be, what, a 3rd round pick?

I think this year's draft is definitely a pretty significant step below last year's draft. And I think the consensus opinion on last season's draft was always that it was a pretty damn strong one.

I just look at someone like Theo Wease out of Mizzou - he was going to MAYBE work his way into the top 20 of the WR class, IMO. Around that Brenden Rice range. This year he's looking like he could be as high as 10-12.

That’s going to be the new normal… NIL gives players an incentive to stay in college.

Which means the talent, especially in the middle rounds will not be as deep.

It's just as silly as judging a class by the very top. Who cares if there's no franchise QB other than the 3-4 teams at the top that really need one?

My point was that both narratives are silly and have no actual impact on the Chiefs.
