Anybody that's played infield knows you're gonna boot that stupid little 40 bouncer far more frequently than you will the short-hop on your backhand.

Sometimes simplicity is your worst enemy.

Yeah - he does stuff that other guys shouldn't do. But it works 90% of the time. So 'dumb' simply has a different definition for Mahomes than it does for most.

Because there does seem to be some mad scientist logic behind it.

Frankly, his worst turnovers are plays that are more in control than that one was. They're plays where he's trying jedi mind-tricks to move Fred Warner to a different spot on the field and he assumes they'll work....then fires a fastball right into Warner's chest when they don't.

His 'out of control' moments are FAR more in control than commonly accepted, IMO.

You can tell luck from skill by its duration. Patrick Mahomes has been doing this for, what, 7 years now? I think it's safe to say that he doesn't just have a horseshoe up his ass.

Kid knows when he can get away with it and when he can't. Something like that gets run through the same calculus that a simple slant route goes through for mere mortals.
He’s been doing it for a solid 10 years. He gets away with it sometimes, but he is the first one to admit to the media that he has some dumb choices. He knows he can get better. The Buffalo playoff game last season is a glimpse of what he can be, which is the absolute GOAT. Careful with the ball, very efficient, and kill them with scrambling when necessary.

Let's set the record straight about that throw. There's a good chance we lose that game without that throw.

We're down 7, pinned in our own goal-line. Brick hands Watson just dropped a 50 yard bomb. Patrick refused to do a playcall from Reid and Bienemy and then, in front of a national audience, ripped into both of them on the sideline. Patrick then just took that play in his own hands and willed that first down into existence, just like he then willed that victory from the jaws of defeat.

And in a game where we won in overtime? Yeah, getting 6 on that drive is damn important. So no, I don't think it was a dumb choice at all. That choice was what won us the game, and Patrick is the only QB in the NFL who could pull it off.

:-) Exactly. I guess certain posters on here would rather LOSE the game than risk a non-standard throw. lol They must miss Alex Smith.

I’m only here because of Mahomes. But I don’t like those dangerous plays. If the guy is open by 5-10 yards, go for it on the circus throw. Kelce wasn’t super open on that play. It was a hell of a conversion by both of them.

Prob should have played it safe and punted. You realize Mahomes broke a record this game with 20 straight competitions. It was not a dumb throw, he knew we needed it.

I definitely think it was a gamble of a throw and can understand your argument, I guess my counter would be that an INT gives us the same result as a punt in that scenario (a loss). I think Mahomes felt the game start slipping, and then just slipped into damn the torpedos, Ass-Kicking Patrick mode.

Wait what?

Is there a Star article or something?

This team doesn't have the talent for Mahomes to play it safe. We don't have the defense, OL nor the WRs. There are time he will have to make some risky throws.

When you have time to think your brain gets in the way , it is why I have hold rather deal with a screaming passing shot in tennis than high lob .

He threw Kelce a jump ball. Players get thrown jump balls every week into coverage. Granted it was across the field in a manner that looks very dangerous but it was a jump ball he trusted the best TE of all time to get. If Brady did that with Gronk nobody would call it anything but a great play.
