Nzoner's Game Room>50 Beers to Try Before You Die
NewChief 06:18 AM 04-24-2010
Thought the beer snobs here might like this article (and probably critique the hell out of it).

(CBS) You've heard of "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall"?

How about 50 to try before you die?!
Spoiler!

Well damn, Goose announced today that they will not be releasing the Bourbon County Reserve Brand Barleywine on Black Friday. It was the 2 year aged barleywine. The announcement said it didn't taste to their standards. That's kind of a bummer. The regular Bourbon County Brand Barleywine is still on the BF release schedule though.

Looks like they also applied for a keg label for a double barrel, 17% abv version of BCBS. Yikes, bring a fork. Looks like its draft only at this point though.

Bought a 4 pack of Dogfish Head World Wide Stout after having some on tap... 16-17%, oak aged. Obviously boozy, but not as much as I'd think... will give at least a couple of them some time to age.

As far as Phoenix availability (lewdog), Total Wine was selling singles and 4 packs last time I was there.

Not at the level of the beers you guys enjoy, but I just tried Bell's Best Brown for the first time...damn good.

Especially out of a 1-liter German Stein.

Have you had Blueberry Spaceship Box from Superstition Meadery up there yet? Local place is finally carrying it consistently down the street from the house. $10 for a 10oz pour and worth every penny.
Nah. You just don't like bitter beers. I am the same way. I like malty, fruity, and sour beers.

Just saw this posted on Boulevard's FB page... sadly, it's rare that I get excited about one of their beers these days, and then when they come out with something like this, it's a very limited release. Assholes.

Looks like I'm spending my birthday weekend in KC.

EDIT: Fuck. It's on a Sunday, not taking a day off on Monday for it.

That looks amazing. I've got a buddy working up by KC right now, I need to get him on this.

Prairie Artisans Pirate Bomb is one of the best stouts I have ever had. Rum barrel aged stouts are good shit.

The whole Bomb! series is fantastic. Haven't had them all, but those I've had have all been excellent.

Haven't seen that one.... ODell's Jolly Russian is fantastic. Didn't think anything could come all that close to BCS for me until I found that one in Phoenix.

I took some inspiration from this thread yesterday but pretty much by mistake.

Decided I wanted a "nicer" 6 pack of some beer for a 2 year old's B-Day party yesterday (FML).

I saw a beer called "Sucks" from Lagunitas. Said something about being a Brown Sugar Ale. I completely missed the IBU of 63 on the pack and had no idea I just purchased a fucking IPA! Discovered this on my way to the party and my mood was dashed. However, maybe it really isn't an IPA? I guess I'm not sure. I thought I found something that called in an American Double IPA. I actually did enjoy it though!

99 rating on ratebeer? Anyone else had this?

Sucks is a great beer - glad you enjoyed it! Funny story how it came to be, too. They have beer called Brown Shugga that they weren't able to make one year due to some issue that I can't recall, so they brewed this beer instead, and called it "Sucks", basically making fun of themselves and apologizing for not being able to brew Brown Shugga. Turned out to be an awesome beer!

The first year it came out, I was at a bar in Chicago, and when the waitress asked me what I wanted, I said "Lagunitas Sucks". She looked confused, and said that they have lots of non-Lagunitas beers, and she was sure I could find something I liked. Was pretty amusing.

:-) its called Lagunitas Sucks because it was a replacement for one of their seasonals called Brown Shugga which isnt an IPA. They had an issue during some expansion or something and the batch of Brown Shugga didn't happen so they made this beer as a quick replacement. (IPA's are fast to brew and release and you want them fresh not aged).

Anyway its a pretty solid beer.

If you get a chance pick some actual Brown Shugga. You will probably like it with your delicate palet. :-)

Sucks, when fresh, is a very good IPA for a national distribution offering. Brown Shugga is a very good strong ale, which would probably fit your taste preference better if you don’t like IPAs. If I remember right, for whatever reason Lagunitas failed to release Brown Shugga one year and released Sucks in its place, hence the Brown Shugga substitute on the packaging.
