While I don't foresee Mahomes playing with Hill in the preseason, I also don't see him playing with 3rd stringers very often. He and Bray both should play with similar supporting casts IMO. Do not want him out there behind a scab OL. [Reply]

If we come out of the preseason seeing him start to understand the balance of playmaker/game manager a bit better, we're in VERY good shape with him.

I think Mahomes will be the backup, and it comes down to one major factor. He needs the daily scout team reps in practice against the starting defense. If you make him the backup, he can take those reps entirely. If he is the #3, they are deferring many of them to Bray, I would think.
Point being, its going to be hard for Reid to give Mahomes more reps than Bray and call him the 3rd stringer at the same time. Those two simply don't mix. [Reply]

The question will be when is the most appropriate time to anoint him the backup (don't know enough about Reid to answer this one). This is assuming he doesn't completely flame out in pre-season and training camp, which is not going to happen. [Reply]

Mahomes is QB2, they are just playing politics and making him "earn it". If Bray and Mahomes did the exact same in preseason they still go Mahomes number 2 for the season. Bray will be healthy scratch every week if he's still on roster. [Reply]
