We're seeing an uptick in people randomly throwing out political bullshit in threads in the Lounge. Don't. Report people who do. They'll get booted from the thread for a first offense and more than that if they continue.
The end.

Due to continued reported posts and general frustrations around inserting politics into absolutely everything, and idea came up to restrict people to DC, much like the Romper Room.
So, everyone gets three thread bans as warnings, and after that will get a vacation in DC (the other forums will be view only). The thread bans and DC vacations will be posted in the transparency thread.
Just like several other rules, there's of course gray area and it doesn't really matter where the line is drawn, because those who can keep politics out of the Lounge will never come close to the line and those who can't will insist on running right up to it.
Generally speaking, we're talking about political opinions or blatantly inserting politics into a thread that isn't even a little bit on topic, or otherwise leaking DC BS into the Lounge or other forums.
Anyone here listen to Stern on Sirius/XM? At the end of one of his latest shows, his staff went into full meltdown mode about this sort of stuff, and Howard let it play out as an example of the division we're seeing across the country. Besides being hilarious, it was truly indicative of the mess we're finding ourselves in - myself included in that.
I have no great insight about this (for now). Curious if anyone else listens to Stern.

I listen occasionally but that show pretty much died several years ago.

2. The kind of people that start threads of any topic, even borderline political, in the Lounge. They see everything through a political lens. They don’t care if they’re starting threads in the wrong forums, talk about politics when it’s unnecessary and unwarranted and really don’t give a shit what other people think of their behavior. The worst of the lot dare people to report them and dare the Mods to ban them.
More succinctly:
1. People who are here to be a part of the community.

Yeah, but it's not just DC. It can happen in any thread. People know just not to say a banned word and you can be as racist as you like. Basically the whole site is NSFW now, because that sort of thing is just as NSFW as pron is.
People who post manifestly racist things should be banned for being miserable users who are a detriment to the community. Just about every internet forum operates that way. People don't have a right to post on a site. On any other forum I frequented, someone like that would have been chucked out early on and nobody would ever miss them.
On CP you have long-timers who can get away with whatever and cliques and friendships influence things. Mods don't want to hear people complain, I get it. But if you don't maintain a place like this it turns into a trailer park

For the record:
In the past 18 months, you have reported two posts. Both of them were acted upon, even though we eventually learned that one of them wasn't actually a racial slur.

I think it was the leaked 'TED talk' that broke me, but it was breaking down for quite a while. And I was an avid listener for decades. [and it's not political because I dropped Carolla around the same time].
Maybe everyone gets old, but Stern turned into a pansy-fied version of Imus somwhere along the way. Everything is about sucking up to celebs and coo-coo-ing with his trophy wife and her cat hospital.
In in response, the 'crew' has been gasping and struggling to hide the 'strings' of how they formulate their content for a while, contrived arguments, fake calls, etc.
Whch is fine, except it's the opposite of what made him an icon. Like if Tarantino started making Hallmark TV movies.

One does seem more productive than the other.
Hard to classify either, or really anything done on an internet message board, as productive.
