Nzoner's Game Room>Let's Talk About Nagy's Playcalling
Bowser 06:50 PM 10-29-2023
I think we can all agree that our offense has been "off" all season, minus the Bears and Chargers games. Mahomes hasn't looked himself by and large, and that could well be because of the talent around him, but watching the plays unfold just makes me wonder why some of the plays are being called in the first place.

Today was an abomination on many fronts with the offense but it sure looked a good deal like an Alex Smith game plan, minus Mahomes' patented making something out of nothing scramble drill passes. The run plays were predictable and getting nothing, but they kept forcing them. We threw the ball laterally as much as horizontally (seemingly), and the plays themselves just look, well, off.

Is it Nagy, is it Mahomes, is it the talent outside of Mahomes and Kelce, or is it a combination of all that? Or was this game just an outlier and our annual piss down our legs game as has been suggested, and I'm just OMG-ing for no good reason?

Something FEELS different than in the past so far this season. I would love to put my finger on what it is, precisely.

:-) Lawrence gets even less help than Mahomes does.

Since the start of the 2023 NFL season, the #Jaguars rank last during AND after the catch.

Except Nagy doesn’t run things here, Andy does. So by your logic Andy sucks.

They completely changed the offensive philosophy here to lean on the running the game. Andy doing that goes against everything he believes in.

That says everything about our injuries this season

:-) So if Nagy is inconsequential, why do you simp for him so hard and why are you so opposed to swapping him out for a different yes man to Reid?

No thanks on Pederson. His Jags offenses are terrible & the playcalling I've seen each time I've seen them (which is only against the Chiefs frankly) has been poor.

Our next OC is probably gonna be our next head coach. No, I have no evidence, but I imagine Clark (and to some extent Veach) don’t want to run the risk of hiring outside the team and then seeing them be a giant fuckup.

If Nagy/whomever from the Chiefs is a fuckup, at least they can say they were fair to the coaching staff who were a part of all these SBs

Oh, I wouldn't touch the dude with a 10 foot pole. It's just almost undoubtedly who Reid is going to hire based on his past preferences.

I'm just mocking the idea that Nagy is anywhere near the coach Pederson is. Because of all the shit you could point to to assert that Pederson is a failure, Nagy has been just as guilty of doing the same, and as head coaches Pederson actually won a Super Bowl while Nagy hasn't won a playoff game.

It is unbelievable how Doug has fucked that kid up despite good surrounding talent. He isn’t good.

Idk how anyone can watch what he’s doing in Jacksonville and think he would add anything of value to this franchise.

Huh, welll that's one way to look at it, I guess. But the gross stats don't really agree with that assessment.

I mean, this season, TL hasn't been good, that's obvious, but with Pederson TL improved dramatically over his rookie year in most areas. And in spite of JAX's record, and TL's struggles, check out his QBR; he's steadily improved since Doug became HC.

And I think you're overestimating exactly what TL is, imo. I don't agree that TL is "above average." I think it's more than possible that he's just a better version of Danny Dimes.

What I would agree with is that Doug seems to have overestimated what he could accomplish with TL. Giving him that contract was a mistake, imo. I think it'll probably come back to haunt him and the franchise sooner rather than later, because TL is likely not to become a top-10 type of QB.

I can see a Defensive minded HC which Mahomes has Peyton Manning playcalling control. If it's another OC he'll definitely have to mesh because Patrick knows who has the mettle being with Reid his whole career.

Didn't Nagy take CHI to the playoffs with Trubiscuit? The same Trubiscuit that everyone now knows isn't a starting-caliber QB, and is now in fact sitting on a bench somewhere?

Not saying Nagy will be a great HC, but he might not be as bad as some people think.

He did. And then Trubisky regressed with a shoulder injury and the train flew off the rails and Nagy lost the team and ultimately his job.

Yup. Doug is 56. He would be in his 60’s by the time he took over. No thanks.

Nagy is probably the replacement in waiting but if he’s not they would ideally get someone else who could fill that role.

I think they would prefer someone who is a Reid disciple so they don’t have to change a lot of things when Andy leaves

If we are going to blow Doug for a short stint with Foles, then it should be pointed out that Nagy was here for Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes best seasons (yes 2022 was Mahomes best year all things considered).

Well yeah. Shouldn't we also mention that CHI is an absolute dumpster fire of an organization when we discuss Nagy's success there or lack thereof? Just saying.

We could also remind ourselves that Doug managed to make Wentz look like an MVP-caliber QB for almost an entire season, shouldn't we? And then, when Carson went down, he guided a backup QB to a SB win?

:-) 'Blow Doug for a short stint with Foles'

They beat the Brady/Belicheck Patriots for a Super Bowl. Hung 41 on them. Brady threw for over 500 yards and 3 TDs.

Denigrating that to try and put Nagy on a pedestal is some of the most embarrassing behavior I've seen on this board.
