Media Center>Building a new PC
TambaBerry 06:12 PM 02-28-2023
Have a 3090 currently but am severely bottlenecked. Looking to get the best possible PC that I can build through microcenter in Kansas City. Looking for high end so like 13900k and ddr5 ram.

Sooo....question: Looking at this i3 Processor and it says it fits a LGA1151 Socket type, yet on PcPartsPicker they're listing me LGA1700 socket type MoBo's for it. What am i missing here?

Aight, here's what i'm looking at:

CPU: i3-13100F
MoBo: ASRock B660M Pro
GPU: Radeon RX 7600
TimeTec 16GB RAM

$502 Shipped.

Thoughts?

What are you trying to play on it?

I think that should be fine.

I would only maybe suggest spending $25 or something like that more and getting the 4060 instead of the 7600.

I agree with the 4060.

You might be able to save some money with a Ryzen 5 3600 combo. Of course, I am spoiled with a MicroCenter very close to me.

Looks like it's $20 cheaper, which would offset the cost of the 4060 so it ends up being about the same.

Is the Ryzen 5 3600 better than that i3 I listed?

I think he meant Ryzen 5 5600? And yes, that one is better.

I was thinking you might find a good 3600 combo that would free up money for a better GPU. While it is slightly behind the i3, I would put them in the same tier.

I don't know prices right now. I mentioned it because a bought a 3600 combo at MC for $130 about a year ago. I had an extra 2080ti to put in it. My thinking was that I could slap a used 3900x in it in the future.

In this case though, your end user probably won't notice the difference between any of the hardware. I wouldn't overthink it, I would just do what is cheapest and/or easiest. Good luck.

Nice cheap setup that should do really well at 1080p gaming.

I'm a little hesitant about the TimeTec RAM though. Never heard of that brand, and they are not listed on the RAM QVL for that motherboard. That doesn't mean it wouldn't work. But I've never had very good luck with offbrand RAM.

For reference, here's the RAM QVL list for that mobo. Ideally you'd want a RAM kit from that list as it's been tested and certified to work. https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B660...dex.asp#Memory

I'd check your existing PSU as well, to make sure it has power output directly to the GPU. Also need a line to the secondary motherboard power that's usually a 4/6/8 pin input. Lots of old PSUs didn't have those. Make sure it can provide enough wattage. You can reference online power consumption calculators if you're not sure.

Check the GPU dimensions to make sure it will fit in the old case as well.

Remember that Intel CPUs don't come with CPU coolers.

As others mentioned, it would be nice to bump up to an NVidia GPU if possible. Although I think it would cost a little more than $25. Regardless, NVidia has been knocking it out of the park with DLSS upscaling and that's clearly the direction developers are going. Even with less VRAM, the NVidia would be a smarter option.

These debates usually devolve into a "who has the best bbq" esque argument but givin the specs and requirements you seem to be looking for I'd do at least a bit of research into mini PCs.

No worries about comparability and about the size of 6 piece McNugget box.

Good luck either way, brother!

4070 is my next card I think. Just the best bang for the buck right now.

What about storage?

You should be able to game 1080p just fine with that config. Get around 60 fps on ultra settings.
