Eli... that won't happen, he has a 23M cap hit for 2019 and will be 38. Let that ship sail.

Broncos CEO on Vance Joseph: We're all pulling for him

After a busy offseason, which included the signing of quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year deal, the Denver Broncos entered the 2018 season with hopes of turning around a team that finished 5-11 in 2017.

Denver started off hot with a 2-0 record, but head coach Vance Joseph's team now enters Week 6's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on a three-game slide.

While Joseph and his coaching staff could quickly find themselves on a hot seat, Broncos president and CEO Joe Ellis provided a vote of confidence on Thursday.

"They know the deal," Ellis said, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. "They experienced it last year. They know what needs to be done to fix it and move forward and try to improve and get better, and play some good football for the remaining 11 games. We're all pulling for and supporting him and we'll see where it goes.".............

:-)
They all know how important it is if a man with special needs can become a successful head coach.

Vance will be gone, barring an amazing recovery. 7-14 is terrible and if they continue the slide into the abyss, he'll be gone before season end.

The OL has been an issue for years. They have a lot of good pieces, but they've lost their identity and there are no leaders standing up and taking accountability.

You guys should certainly relish in all the ugliness and dysfunction... we would and have in the past. I'm in for the long-haul, always have been and still believe that it won't be ugly for as long as many here hope and predict.
Firing an inept head coach is one thing. Replacing him with a good one is quite another.

Yes, firing the bad one is always the first step, but if you've got stink on you as a GM, it can be very difficult to remove it in the head coach hiring process.

Pioli was so putrid and awful to his head coaching candidates that nobody good wanted to apply. He also narrowed the field to just "his" Parcells/Patriot guys, or people who thought like them.

Elway seems to at least cast his net pretty wide and isn't married to one system or coaching tree over another. The problem is establishing that culture every time you hire a new guy.

If he hires another first time head coach like he did with Joseph, he better damn well be sure about his choice. Those kinds of candidates seems really sexy on the surface because they're new, fresh, and unknown, but there are far more Vance Josephs lurking about than there are Sean McVays.

How many more years do you give Elway if it stays about the same with the next coach? 5-8 wins a season avg. I can’t help but feel he is the one holding you back. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving it, and I dont feel that Dungver has people in place to make a good decision on the next GM.

Pat Mahomes will be a Chief for at least 15 years so there's that. you're screwed.

Based on what?

Why do you think the Broncos are immune to being bad for a while?

It’s not just about your coach. Elway has been a bottom 5 GM since Manning left and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

He's a homer

That's okay. He's wrong, but it's understandable that he "believes" Denver will still be good

Oh, there's no debate really at this point that Mahomes is the real deal. I'm genuinely happy for you guys - seriously, I've said this a number of times. And, as a fan of the game, I like watching him play. It was not fun watching him remind me of Elway when they beat Denver. But, he's pretty solid... sorry, that's not good enough... he's pretty badass.

I didn't say they were immune from being bad for a while... How long is "a while"? I said it won't be ugly for as long as many here hope and project. Many have said the Broncos are destined to suck for a decade or so.

I just don't buy that theory, not in today's NFL and not given the history of the franchise. Denver could totally be in the thick of a stretch similar to 2006-2011 or 1992-1995.

I think many here believe they could be in line for a level of sucktitude on par with the Raiders and what they've done since 2003. Only 3 seasons at or above .500 out of 16 (5 weeks into 16 now). I absolutely do not see that happening.

Denver was 9-7 in 2016... 5 wins in 2017 and looking bad now at 2-3 in 2018. That's a relatively short timeframe and speaking for myself, it wouldn't shock or concern me too much if they hovered around that average/mediocre or even poor production through 2020.

In the grand scheme of things, 2016-2020 may seem like an eternity to some, but not for me. It happens to most teams. Some never get out of the cycle of losing, but one way or another... Denver will rebound. May not be 2018 or 2019.

I agree. We as fans want you to be bad for 40 years. In reality, you'll probably only be bad for 15 years

Regardless, now that Cleveland is better, we can officially start referring to Denver as the BROWNcos.

One thing you cant have as a GM...is have 1st/2nd round picks consistently leaving without a 2nd contract.

Right now...it appears Roby, Ray and Bolles arent getting one...along with Lynch and Williams. That's every 1st rounder since 2013. Chubb might break the cycle...but i dont think he's going to be as dominant as Donk fans predicted.

That's along with 2nd rounders...Sambrailo, Ball, Latimer and Osweiler.

What ever the case...the one constant is their assistant coaches failure to develop players...Horseface has been terrible in that regard.

All true.. they've drafted like hell. No way to counter it. I do like the upside from this most recent draft class though.
