Nzoner's Game Room>Space Exploration megathread
DaFace 09:40 AM 06-01-2014
Since a number of cool things are happening in space exploration these days, we'll widen the scope of this thread a smidge. Conversation about all things space exploration are welcome, whether it be from NASA, SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, or anyone else. Chances are most of the discussion will still be about SpaceX since they love to make things public and fun, but nothing's off limits. I'll eventually get around to modifying the OP to include resources for other companies too, but in the meantime, feel free to post any cool stuff you run across.

Skies clearing nicely here. Hopefully it won't be too light when they pass over at 9:12. Thanks Coogs.

Does the hinged nose cone stay open, or does it close? I presume the latter.

I think they only close it for the final descent, but it does close eventually. I think they keep it open as long as possible due to the instrumentation that's in there. Don't hold me to that, though.

It's clearing here too. Sunset is at 8:41. Not sure if it will be dark enough at 9:12 but gonna find out.

Almost certainly dark enough for ISS. Dragon may be iffy though.

If I'm interpreting it right, Dragon is moving FASTER than ISS at this point, so if you guys are out looking for it, I THINK that it'll be out front - not behind.

I could be wrong. I'm digging around, and some have seen it behind. Regardless, look both directions but in the same plane.

Will do. Partly cloudy here in North Central Kansas, but there are some patches of very clear sky. Gonna be iffy.

Same on my end. Hoping we get some clearing here in the next hour.

Northwest of Hawaii right now. 14 minutes or so until it passes over my sight line.

Getting ready to hit the vertex of the curve right off the coast north of Washington State, and heading to the Southeast. About time to go watch the sky!

Watching it fade away. No dragon though.

My wife and I picked up the space station straight north, and were able to follow it for about 3 minutes until it exited in the east. We couldn't decided if we saw the dragon or not. If so, they were very close together. We couldn't decide if it was right in front. It was sort of like a double vision type of thing. Either way... Very Cool. May try it again at 10:48.
