This wasn’t you, but man the idiots in the GDT thread saying he sucked after that injury. Good God. Was clear that that injury took its toll on him which is completely understandable.
The problem with Pacheco is his receiving traits. I remember Torico saying Pacheco worked on his receiving skills in the offseason….and then dropped a wide open pass for a TD.
Love Pacheco but he doesn’t have good lateral agility or a feel for the passing game. He’s a straight line guy. We haven’t had a receiving threat at the position since McKinnon. A guy who can make guys miss and be a nice WR on passing downs.
We got it from Clyde for awhile before that devastating injury killed his athleticism (I think in New Orleans?)
This is what we’ve been missing IMO and why I want Ty Johnson so badly:
Jerrick McKinnon showed some juice on this TD. Mahomes finds him uncovered out of the backfield on third down. Some nice hesitation with the spin gets the first down, and the juke and finish get the TD. Fresh legs headed into the playoffs. @ArrowheadLivepic.twitter.com/OzNR8qU4Uv
Perine is a good receiving back as proven by what he’s done prior to coming to KC. They barely used him as a rb, let alone ad a receiver. Because as we were told, “Andy is holding everything back for the playoffs”. Still barely used him either way except for icing the Bills game. Andy just had really gone away from passing to the backs, running screens with them, etc. Where’s the offense that ran that sweet wheel route to Kareem during his first stint with KC? Where are all the plays we used to run with McKinnon? [Reply]

How many explosive runs did Jaylen Wright have in a very good Dolphins running game?
Sure there was. He left a ton of meat on the bones simply by nature of his running style. It's inefficient and looks for contact. And he's not explosive through the hole -- he has more long-speed than suddenness in that regard.
You knew this a year ago when you wanted Wright.
And again, as for Wright specifically -- the issue is as to what we were lacking and who might have filled that niche. Maybe time will prove that the answer wasn't Wright, but to act as though the question wasn't asked is simply wrong.
If Pacheco is your 'homerun threat' you don't have a very explosive running game -- even when he was healthy. I haven't gotten through all his game logs, but it looks like the longest run of his career was 48 yards. Perine probably has a run that long. The difference between him and a truly dynamic guy are pretty evident.
Pacheco is a guy who's a lot like Smith in that he gets a fair bit of fan latitude due to being a homerun draft pick and having an aggressive style. But he's still a limited player. [Reply]
By the way, that 'very good Dolphins running game' was very good because of one guy -- Achane. And even then, it wasn't great by any stretch. I mean Mostert went out there for 3.3 yards/carry. Jeff Wilson for 3.6. Wright was the most effective backup they had.
And Achane was another guy I REALLY wanted 2 seasons ago. For the very same reasons and despite a healthy Pacheco.
This team has needed an explosive addition to the RB room for years and yes, that was readily apparent. [Reply]
Pacheco had runs of 29, 23, 37, 24, 26, 48, and 31 jsut last year. That's not all of his long runs, just a few of his longest in individual games. Every one of those runs would've been #1 this year.
This is revisionist history. Just because I wanted to add more speed doesn't mean that Pacheco wasn't clearly capable of providing more than enough of them. It was never an issue until this year, and that's just a fact. [Reply]
DJ, are you seriously trying to argue that a 4th round rookie who had 249 yards and 3.7 YPC would've saved our running game? I can't even believe we're doing this right now.
The guy would have BARELY seen the field. They don't play RBs they can't trust with things like pass pro. [Reply]

Are you not paying attention to anything I'm saying at all right now? Because I've said it at least twice. [Reply]

Yeah -- I thought it would be a problem. So did many others. I mean you can quibble in degrees if you want, but this was a known issue coming into the season. This running game has been trending towards plodding at best for a few years now. Really since Williams left and definitely as the miles started to move up on Pacheco a bit.
This was a precipice we were teetering over for a couple of years. And we finally went over the edge.
Agreed. And I don't really know the answer. Other than we need to hit on some dumpster diving McKinnon types. I certainly don't want to put major resources in a RB, but maybe it's going to take a 3rd or something to get the skills we need in the building. I even hate to do that because the injury rates on RBs are so bad.
But wherever we end up we need to be looking for more athleticism. Honestly, I have no clue why Carson Steele had a roster spot. Was he killer on STs or something? That is exactly the wrong dude to have on the roster. [Reply]

This entire argument started because I asked for the guy that Sassy was pounding the table for that would've changed everything for our running game this season.
If you changed the argument to fit what you wanted to argue, that's on you. [Reply]

No.
We're good.
Isaiah Pacheco is an explosive back. We're okay here. [Reply]

Yeah. Perine was okay but he’s 29 and ran a 4.65. The difference between a guy like that and Achane is enormous. I suspect they had no interest in Achane bc he wasn’t big enough to block, and that’s a big thing for them.
We need speed. We need lateral agility. And we need someone with a nice feel for the passing game. Good news is there are quite a few of those guys in the draft and I think we’re gonna get one [Reply]

Yes -- Isaiah Pacheco was an explosive RB. You've nailed it. And I've said that not drafting Jaylen Wright is why we lost the Super Bowl.
Enjoy your victory.
Nobody is being disingenuous here but you. You jumped into this argument like you had the answer to my question when you jsut changed my question to make it fit.
No, Jaylen Wright wasn't saving this offense and running game. Anything else is irrelevant to my point. [Reply]

Oh.
Yeah - silly me, thinking that a pissing match between you and Sassy might be a useful jumping off point for actual off-season conversation.
I probably should've just called you both dumb fucks and gone about my merry way. Seems far more productive. [Reply]
